Captain Becket had thought about it for some time as he sat at his desk in his ready room. However, he thought he’d take a stroll. He went to the turbolift on the bridge. “Engineering.” He said to the computer. The doors closed and he had smiled about this promotion that he’s giving too. The turbolift had finally took a hault. He stepped off and went to the engine room where he first was at. He went to the office of the Chief engineer and knocked on the frame. “Izak you here?” He said.

Lt Waryn was staring at the large display on the wall, where a blown up view of Deck 16’s port side holodecks was displayed. They were having issues with their forcefields, to the point that the treadmill effect was no longer functional. The holodecks could still be used for smaller simulations. But larger sims couldn’t be run safely.

The issue had been going on for a week and the department hadn’t been able to get it fixed. Izak was determined to resolve the problem before the crew started complaining.

He was so distracted with his thoughts that he simply said, “Enter.”

When he cought a glimpse of Captain Beckett out of the corner of his eye he stiffened slightly and corrected himself. “My apologies Captain… I was too engrossed in my work and didn’t recognize your voice.”

Izak turned away from the board and focused his attention on the Commanding Officer and tried to force himself to relax. “What brings you down to Engineering, Captain? Something I can help you with?”

He smiled. “Well, Izak. Don’t worry. You know how you are more of a provisional Lieutenant J.G.? Well, I’m promoting you to a full Provisional Lieutenant.” He said.

LT J.G. Waryn paused, taken off guard. That was the last thing I expected to hear today.

Izak remembered his check in with then Lt Cross about his goals for his tour onboard the Ark Angel. At that time, Ensign Waryn simply hoped to be promoted to Lt J.G. and maybe serve as Assistant Chief Engineer before he transferred to his next tour.

Now he was both a full Lieutenant and the Chief Engineer… surpassing both objectives in less time than he’d though it would take to achieve achieve his original goals.

All this flashed through Izak’s mind in and instant, but he still felt like he’d taken to long to reply to his Commanding Officer.

“Thank you, Sir! Its an honor. I appreciate the trust you’re placing in me, and I’ve been working extremely hard to prove to you that its warranted.”

“Of course Lieutenant. I know you’ve earned it. It’s a big step being the Chief Engineer. I was in your shoes not long before.” He said.

Riley smiled “ I just thought about something. It seems like the chief engineer keeps getting promoted all the time” he said as a joke

“Well, it looks like I’m in good company then.” Lt Waryn laughed at Commander Riley O’Nell’s comment, knowing that both the CO and XO had previously been Chief Engineers on the Ark Angel. “I think being a Department Head is about all I can handle at the moment, so I’m going to need both of you to stay healthy and avoid any unnecessary risks.” He flashed a grin. “If not for your own livelihoods, then do it for my sanity, please.”

The new Lieutenant didn’t mind the provisional status of his new promotion. He’d become accustomed to needing to perform to prove he could fulfill the responsibilities given to him. It reminded him of the weight the position carried, and the people that depended on him. Izak couldn’t afford to give them anything but his best.

He chuckled for a moment. “You deserved it, Lieutenant.” He nodded.
