Captain Becket was on the bridge along with Ensign Blackford. While everyone else was at their duty stations, NE Blackheart was at the science station running scans within the area. He sat there pondering as he had his little pad open on his chair. NE Lovejoy was in engineering, ensuring everything ran smoothly. “Report.” He said to everyone else who was around on board.NE Blackheart “Science is good, sir.” He said with a nod. “Engineering is good as well sir.” Said NE Lovejoy.

USS ARK ANGELWyatt looked over from the station he had been working at, the soft glow of the console reflecting across his face. His posture stayed straight and professional, fingers still moving across the controls even as he turned his attention toward the officer. To anyone else he probably looked perfectly calm, focused even, but there was a tension sitting just beneath the surface. It showed in the slight tightness around his jaw and the way his shoulders stayed just a little too rigid. He hid it well though, years of discipline making it easy to bury nerves beneath routine.
The security reports continued to scroll across the screen beside him, green status indicators flashing one after another. Patrol routes were covered, internal sensors functioning normally, weapons systems on standby exactly where they were supposed to be. Everything was in order. On paper, at least, the ship was ready.
“Sir, security is green and ready,” Wyatt reported evenly.
His voice was steady, controlled, though he briefly glanced back toward the display as if double-checking everything one more time before fully stepping away from the console. He ran a hand along the edge of the station, more out of habit than necessity, then straightened slightly.
“All decks have reported in, response teams are standing by, and internal checkpoints are active. No issues reported so far.”
He paused for half a second, eyes flicking toward the bridge before settling back on the officer in front of him.
Despite the calm report, Wyatt could feel the tension hanging in the air around the room. Everyone aboard knew something important was coming. The bridge was quieter than usual, conversations shorter, movements sharper. Even the experienced officers seemed more focused than normal. Wyatt tried not to let it get to him, but the anticipation sat heavy in the back of his mind.
Still, he gave a small nod, forcing a faint confident expression onto his face.
“We’re as ready as we’re going to be, sir.”

Becket had heard all the status reports. “Very good; we don’t want to lose contact on the away teams. Let’s make sure we keep a strong lock on them in case we need to beam them out.” He ordered. “I don’t need to lose anyone on this mission. Alright, Let’s get to work.” He said.

Wyatt stayed in contact with the security teams stationed throughout the ship, keeping every unit on standby in case things went sideways. His eyes moved between the different readings and status reports scrolling across the panel in front of him while voices from the comms channel filtered through the background. So far everything was holding steady, but experience had taught him that calm situations could change in seconds.
A soft beep pulled his attention away from the tactical display for a moment.
He glanced down at the incoming message and immediately recognized the sender. His sister.
Hey you alive?
And before you answer remember I know you.
Wyatt let out a quiet breath through his nose and shook his head with the faintest hint of amusement. Of course she’d send that. Areiana had always known him far too well for his own good. Ever since they were kids she could read him better than almost anyone else, usually before he even realized something was wrong himself.
He looked down at the message for another second, thumb hovering over the response button, but another voice immediately came through the comm channel requesting an update from one of the patrol teams. Duty pulled his focus back before he could answer.
“I copy. Hold your position and stay alert,” Wyatt responded evenly, his tone calm and controlled despite the tension lingering underneath.
He closed the message but made a mental note to respond to his sister as soon as he had a free second. If he didn’t, she’d probably assume the worst and start digging through security reports herself. Honestly, that thought alone almost made him smile.
Almost.
Wyatt tapped a finger softly against the side of the control panel, the steady rhythm absentminded and familiar. It was a habit he’d picked up as a kid whenever he was thinking too hard or trying to stay calm. Back then their mother used to complain about the constant tapping echoing through the house whenever he got nervous or focused on something.
Now he barely even noticed he was doing it.
His eyes narrowed slightly as another report scrolled across the screen. Everything still looked stable, but there was a feeling in the air he didn’t trust. The kind of tension that settled in right before something went wrong. He leaned forward slightly, resting one hand against the console while the other continued its quiet tapping.
For a brief moment his thoughts drifted back to his sister. He could practically picture the look on her face right now — tired, worried, probably rubbing at a headache while pretending she wasn’t concerned.
“Yeah, yeah,” he muttered quietly under his breath. “I’m alive.”
