As a bit of time passed, roughly an hour or so, the group it seems got joined by a group of hiking colonists from up in the hills. They seemed a bit surprised at the unfamiliar faces. “..Oh uh hello? Didn’t quite expect anyone else to be along this area of the coast at this time of day or month?” a man in a set of deep green jeans, and a mid-arm shirt with a swirling blue-silver color said. He seemed to be the hiking leader of the group of 16 others. They all were human except for a vulcan woman, and a half human-vulcan child of about 10-11 years perhaps.

“I’m not exactly a beach bum myself… but I get it.” Izak chuckled in response as he treaded water. He completely missed the subtext that something was bothering Ensign Blackford. “Ill be back in a little bit Wyatt… but if you don’t see me in an hour, have NE Nibbles execute an emergency transport to save me!”

Although he wouldn’t admit it… not after his earlier display… the water did feel pretty good now that he was getting used to it. Lt Waryn swam out a ways and explored the various formations under the water. He took a lot of breaks and just floated there for a while to catch his breath. He felt like he was in good shape, bit swimming was really taking it out of him.

He swam for about 30 minutes and returned to the beach completely exhausted.

Izak was dry and enjoying the sun and crisp breeze when the hikers came by. He stood and walked over with a smile to shake the man’s hand.

“Hi there! I’m Izak. Were from the ship that just brought in additional supplies. The colony leadership was kind enough to offer us the chance to relax on the surface and we chose this beach. Are we interrupting anything? There aren’t that many of us.”

Recognition came from one of the group nodding, “..Oh right! The govenor did say we were getting a resupply about today or so. USS Ark Angel yeah?” said one. “..Well good to have you down here enjoying our little slice of our colony. Hope you’ll all make it to the BBQ tonight in the main colony proper! Best BBQ you’ll have for light years around!” he said. The rest mean while headed out further down the beach to find their own private spot to do their thing. “..We’ll be a bit down that way, give us a holler if you need anything..” he said then fast walking to catch up to the group.

Ollie watched the family carefully, he was surprised to see people here with the remoteness of the area, but figured if the crew could find it locals could find it too. He figured he would let Izak handle the diplomacy for now and turned his attention back to Wyatt.

“It can be a lot the first time you see something like this, especially if you’re from a place like land-locked Iowa. I’ve never been but I’ve heard that sometimes the Great Lakes are big enough to seem like they’re an ocean.”

He plopped down on the sand and stretched out a little bit to let the sun’s rays soak in.

“Your sister sounds smart, it’s good to have career goals and all that but there’s so much more in the universe to take in and experience,” he opened one eye, squinting in the sun and looked up at Wyatt, “Trying is a good first step, and, for the record, I think coming down here to a random beach with the rest of us moves over into the success column.”

My sister is a genius,” he said, a small note of pride slipping into his voice despite how casually he tried to say it. “She became chief medical officer at twenty-five—top of her class, no surprise there.”

His gaze dropped to his feet, his toes digging deeper into the warm sand. He shifted slightly, letting it slip between his toes, the heat of it a strange contrast to what he was used to. The sun rested comfortably on his skin, warming his face in a way that felt almost unfamiliar.

He let out a quiet chuckle, shaking his head a little. “Back home, there’d probably be five feet of snow on the ground right now,” he added, glancing up toward the endless stretch of ocean before him. The waves rolled in steadily, the sound rhythmic, almost calming.

“It’s kind of weird,” he admitted after a moment, his voice softer now. “Being on a beach… in weather like this.” He inhaled slowly, the salty air filling his lungs, so different from the crisp, biting cold he grew up with.

“But…” he continued, a faint smile forming as he leaned back slightly, letting his hands sink into the sand behind him, “it’s nice. Really nice.”

Izak laughed at the comment about barbecue. “Your Governor said the same thing about the bbq! We’ll all be there, and I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve got a few hours to go yet.”

He glanced around at the beach, ocean, and skyline. “Its really beautiful here… we really appreciate the invite and the chance experience it first hand.” He turned back to the man. “Please let us know if we get too rowdy and bother you… and we’ll be sure to to come over if we have any questions or need any help.”
