Seeing everyone looking like they were going to the same place he asked, “..So are all you folks going to the same place as Ensign Ollie here? If so get up onto the pad and I’ll beam you all in one go, otherwise you’ll need to queue up to let me know where you’re going if not the colony market..” he said.

Ollie arched an eyebrow at the transporter officer, “Ensign? Billis, did seeing all my spots out of uniform confuse you?”

Izak glanced around the transporter room. “I’m in… and Wyatt… you already look like youre dressed for warm weather. Up for some beach time?” Luckily a pair of shorts and some sandals were tucked safely away in Izak’s satchel.

The brekkian walked up to the transporter pad and took his place. Then he looked sat NE Billis. “I think Roger would be down for the beach as well… can you beam Ensign Sanks down to our location when he arrives?”

Billis blinked confusion on his face looking at Ollie, “..Wha…what do you mean uh…” he paused brow furrowed before he added, “..s…sorry uh Lieutenant sir…” looking down at his console to input the data Izak then said.

Ollie looked around at all of the junior officers that had gathered for beach time, several of them his own security officers. It would appear he would have to behave himself on this little outing. He gave a smile to the group, “Let’s get this show on the road. All ashore’s goin’ ashore! Billis, you energize as soon as the last person gets their feet on this pad.”

OOC: I’ll be splitting this thread off after this reply, continue further in that thread then…

”..Energizing..” Billis said once everyone going to the beach was on the pads, in a swirl of lights they spun away to their destination.

When the group rematerialized they were in a shallow coastal valley, behind them ranging off for some miles was a mostly small series of hills, spanned by flowing shades of green and lightly orange colored grass up on the hills, with a small stream trickling down either side to combine into a larger one that made its way further down the shallow valley emptying into the nearby ocean about 100ft off from where they stood. The sandy beach was warm to the touch, the air was also warm but crisp and clean with a hint of a citrus and salty ocean smell on the air. Above some long winged gull like birds native to the planet flew on the thermals heading in land and out further to the ocean. The water coming from up the valley was fresh and clear and cool, mixing with the salty ocean nearby which was much warmer. Gently lapping on the beach gentle waves were in evidence with a crisp clear sunny sky also present.

Scans from before their beam down showed the closest Sal Colony settlement was about 30-40 miles to their north up along the coast. So they had the place to themselves,

Ollie sighed as he felt the sun’s rays touch his skin. It had been way too long since he had been to the beach. He kicked off his flip flops and relished the feeling of the sand between his toes and then threw off the tank top. Glancing around their area he took a quick survey of the scene to make sure there were no obvious threats in the area, a security officer is never truly off duty, and allowed his Betazoid senses to reach out around the group to make sure he didn’t sense anything alarming.

Briefly turning his attention to the other officers that had beamed down he said, “Alright, so just to be clear there’s no ‘sir’ or ‘Lieutenant Commander’ or anything down here right now. I’m Oliver, or Ollie if you’re feeling comfy about it, and I am going to soak up every last ray of sunshine I can here and see if any of those waves out there are worth paddling out for. If anyone already knows how to surf or wants some pointers, I’m happy to share. If you all just want to sit and watch a pro do his thing, that’s cool too. Otherwise… don’t do dumb stuff.”

He gave them all a bright smile and a wink, gestured toward the ocean and turned to head down to the shore to check out how the waves were behaving.

Izak’s first reaction was to look down at the sand and frown as it got on his boots. Yep… I’m a space kid. I don’t think I’ll ever get use to how dirty things can get on the surface.

Beyond that though, he looked at the ocean and felt the heat from the sun on his face… contrasting with the gentle breeze. But I suppose it does have its perks.

Izak glanced around and realized there was no civilization nearby. He knew the colony wouldn’t have anything approaching a resort, but he figured there’d at least be some sort of beach town . Oh well.

After Ollie gave his spiel about everything being casual, Izak went around one of the gentle hills to change into shorts, some spot that he hoped would be out of casual view of the ocean and anybody else beaming down Unless NE Billis decides to get a little mischievous.

Now properly dressed for the location, a barefoot and shirtless Izak started walking toward the beach to catch up with the others.

Lt J.G. Izak Waryn - Chief Engineer - U.S.S. Ark Angel

OOC: Qrow, I think your post got out of sync somehow. I was going to copy it in here but the thread is snipped. So you’re down here with us :)

IC: Ollie approached the surf and studied the waves a bit. Not the best he had seen but also not the worst. He figured it would do for now. He wandered out into the water, noting that it was cooler than he would prefer but, like the waves, it would do for now. As he got out to deeper water he put down his board and hopped on, paddling out further. When he had gotten out to the his perfect spot he sat down to wait and looked back toward the beach surveying what the rest of the group was doing.

Wyatt moves to stand beside Izak, tugging lightly at his shirt with a small, self-conscious shrug.

“Never really know what to wear for something like this,” he admits. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had any real R&R—between being stationed here, the Academy, and working the docks back on Earth… there just wasn’t time.”

He lets out a quiet breath, a hint of a smile forming. “Didn’t exactly get the chance to relax on a beach somewhere, so yeah—I’m really looking forward to this.”

He taps the backpack he was carrying. “I’ve got my uniform with me, just in case I’m needed. Don’t think there’ll be any issues… but you know—better safe than sorry.”

Ensign Wyatt Jacen Blackford

While back on the transporter pad, Izak shook his head. “Now I wish id brought my uniform too. Do you think it’ll be a quasi formal dinner?” He glanced from Wyatt to Ollie. “Well, at least I wint bebthe only one without a uniform.”

Izak was running to catch up with the others after changing into shorts, then decided to continue to run past them toward the ocean.

He dropped his satchel on a dry spot on the beach and sthen printed over the last stretch of sand to plunge into the ocean.

It was shockingly cold, jarring his senses. Izak couldn’t help but yelp as he popped his head back up.

“Uh… don’t mind me everyone. The water is perfectly fine, im just a wimp that grew up on climate controlled ships. Its fine.... honest.” Lt Waryn was sure his shivering and attempts to stay warm undercut the validity of his story.

Lt J.G. Izak Waryn - Chief Engineer - U.S.S. Ark Angel

Wyatt let out a quiet laugh as he watched Izak sprint past them, kicking up sand as he bolted straight for the shoreline without a second thought. A moment later, Izak plunged into the water, disappearing beneath the surface before popping back up, slicking his hair back and trying—very unsuccessfully—to look like the temperature hadn’t just shocked the life out of him.

Shaking his head, Wyatt dropped his bag onto the warm sand and slipped off his shoes, wiggling his toes as the grains shifted beneath his feet. It felt different from the beaches he’d known back in Iowa—those had been quiet lakeshores, the water still and familiar. This… this was something else entirely. The steady crash of waves filled the air, louder and more alive than anything he’d heard before, and the scent of salt hung thick on the breeze. It was sharp, clean, and completely new.

He took a slow breath, letting it all sink in for a moment, before his attention drifted back to Izak.

The sight made him laugh outright.

Izak stood there dripping wet, arms pulled in tight at his sides, trying his best to look unfazed while his whole body betrayed him with small, uncontrollable shivers. Wyatt grinned, crossing his arms as he watched the failed attempt at dignity.

“You look like a drowned cat, Izak,” he called out, amusement clear in his voice. “But hey—you know what? It’s kind of a good look for you.”

He stepped a little closer to the water’s edge, letting the foam of a wave creep toward his bare feet before quickly retreating again. He hesitated, eyeing the ocean with a mix of curiosity and suspicion, then glanced back at Izak with a smirk.

“Though I gotta ask,” he added, raising an eyebrow, “is it actually as cold as it looks, or are you just being dramatic?”

U.S.S. Ark Angel

Izak didn’t mind the others laughing at him. He’d probably be laughing as well if somebody else had been foolish enough to jump in first.

“Oh… its definitely a kick in the teeth at first.” He told Wyatt, still fighting the cold. “But I must be getting used to it. Or going numb.” He ducked his head below the water again, hoping more exposure would help speed up the process. Getting into pools was similar, but they were never quite as cold as this.

He popped back up and wiped the water out of his face again. “I wasn’t lying about being a wimp though. I grew up onboard ships, and the few times I’ve been to the beach I was smart enough to pick someplace tropical and warm. This is something else entirely.” Despite his complaints, the water was starting to feel halfway decent, if not comfortable.

“The water is pretty clear though… I could see for a ways when I ducked under the surface. It looks like there might be a reef or some other weird formation out there a ways. Wanna go check it out?”

Lt J.G. Izak Waryn - Chief Engineer - U.S.S. Ark Angel

Ollie chuckled as he watched Izak back closer to shore. In retrospect a wetsuit might have been better for today, but he figured he would warm up soon enough with physical activity. He turned and looked back over his shoulder until he spotted a series of waves coming in. He lined up and started paddling and then jumped up onto his board as the first wave got to him. Not the biggest he had ridden but it was good enough. Adjusting his board he surfed along the with the wave, throwing in a couple moves for anyone who was watching and dropped back down as the wave came ashore. Feeling the salty spray and the rush of the wind as he flew along kicked his adrenaline up and he let out a “whoop” of excitement.

With a wave to the others he flipped his board around and paddled out to catch the next one.

The ocean water was actually warm, mostly comfortably so, though if one were to get near the outlet from the river higher up the valley which was the fresh water that water was cool, where the two mixed was somewhere in the middle, once you were about 50-100ft away from that mixing spot the water was back to the warmer levels.

In the distance out on the ocean a pair of large gull like birds dove into the ocean some ways off, after a few seconds the silver toned gull birds shot back skyward using an incoming wave to get more airborne with a catch of a large fish in each of their beaks, the pair then swooped and flapped higher heading off up the valley to the hills.

OOC: lol, even more evidence that Izak is a wimp from being on ships most of his life!

Lt J.G. Izak Waryn - Chief Engineer - U.S.S. Ark Angel

Wyatt stepped forward until the water lapped at his feet, the cool surf curling around his ankles as he stared out at the vast stretch of ocean. “No thanks, man—I’m good right here.”

It wasn’t fear that kept him from going any deeper. He wasn’t scared of the water, and he definitely knew how to swim—he’d learned young, long before most kids back home. Cold water didn’t bother him either. He’d spent plenty of time in freezing lakes, diving off old docks and cutting through water that would’ve sent most people running back to shore. That kind of cold, sharp and still, had always felt familiar.

But this… this was different.

The ocean wasn’t still. It moved, shifting endlessly, rising and falling with a steady rhythm that felt almost alive. Each wave rolled in with a quiet roar, breaking against the shore before pulling back again, only to repeat the motion over and over. It wasn’t just water—it was something bigger, something he couldn’t quite put into words.

He had never swum in the ocean before. Truth be told, he had never even seen it in person. The closest he’d gotten were holodeck simulations—perfect, controlled, predictable. This wasn’t that. This was real. Wild. Uncontained.

Wyatt let out a slow breath, his eyes tracing the line where the deep blue water met the sky. The salty air filled his lungs, sharp and unfamiliar, while the sound of the waves drowned out everything else. He could feel the warmth of the sun against his face, a stark contrast to the cool water at his feet, grounding him in the moment.

For a while, he didn’t move. He just stood there, letting it all wash over him—the sights, the sounds, the smell of salt in the air. There was no rush. No orders, no schedules, no responsibilities pressing in on him.

Just the ocean… and the quiet realization that some things were better taken in slowly.

Spenn had stood quietly in observation as he observed the beach around him. A couple arguing while their child building sandcastles. A young man attempting to flirt with the lifeguard. Some unlucky beachgoer chasing after an astray beach umbrella flying in the wind. Another lifeguard frantically performing CPR on an unconscious Tellarite. It would be logical to attend to that, he thought to himself before he made his way over.

Ollie rode another wave in and smoothly hopped off his board. He shook some of the water out of his face and hair and stretched a little in the sun before stooping to pick up his board. He glanced around and spotted the others, his Betazoid senses picking up some of the feelings. Figuring it was time for a break anyway he waded over to where Wyatt was standing, waving to Izak along the way.

“Alright there Wyatt?” he gave a smile to the other officer, then nodded out to the water. “Kinda wild right?”

He turned himself so he was facing out and took in a few deep breaths of the salty air and relished in the feeling as the sun began to dry the water from his skin.

Lieutenant Commander Ezeami - COS

Wyatt jumped slightly when he heard Ezeami say his name, his shoulders tightening before he turned toward him, a bit startled. He hadn’t even noticed him walking up. The steady crash of the waves, the salty breeze, and the distant cries of seabirds had pulled him in so completely that the rest of the world had faded into the background.

For a moment, Wyatt just blinked, like he was being pulled out of a dream.

“Oh—sorry…” he said, rubbing the back of his neck, a faint flush of embarrassment creeping into his expression. “Yeah, I just… I’ve never been to the ocean before. Just… taking it all in.”

His eyes drifted back out toward the water again, almost unconsciously. The horizon stretched on forever, the surface shifting and rolling in a way that felt alive. It wasn’t like the lakes he grew up with—those were calm, familiar, contained. This… this felt endless, unpredictable. There was a rhythm to it, something steady but never still, and he found himself trying to understand it without really knowing how.

After a second, he caught himself staring and looked back at Ezeami, offering a small, slightly awkward smile.

“I grew up with lakes in Iowa,” he added. “Not many oceans nearby.”

The second the words left his mouth, he knew it was a bad joke. Really bad. The kind that didn’t quite land no matter how you said it. Wyatt let out a quiet breath through his nose, the corner of his mouth twitching just a little as if he was debating whether to acknowledge it or just move on.

“I’m… not great at this, my sister wanted me to be more…social” he admitted, gesturing vaguely between them, meaning conversation more than anything else.

It wasn’t something he had much experience with.

Most of the time, he kept to himself. It was easier that way—less to think about, less to get wrong. The only person he’d ever really talked to, joked with, or relaxed around was his sister, Areiana. With her, things had always just… worked. No second-guessing, no awkward pauses. Even his worst jokes usually got at least a real reaction out of her.

A faint spark of pride slipped into his expression as he thought of her.

“She actually got accepted onto the USS Chimera,” he said, glancing back out at the waves for a moment before looking at Ezeami again. “Chief Medical Officer.”

There was something softer in his voice when he said it—quiet pride mixed with something deeper, harder to pin down.

” Wyatt shifting his weight slightly in the sand. “Says I spend too much time in my own head. Or buried in work.”

He let out a small breath, almost a laugh, though it didn’t quite carry.

“I told her I’d try,” he added, looking back at Ezeami with a faint, self-aware smile. “So… this is me trying.”

He glanced back toward the ocean one more time, then returned his attention, a little more focused now, even if there was still a hint of uncertainty in his posture.

“Just… might take me a bit to get the hang of it,” he said quietly.

Ensign Sanks went mostly unnoticed down to the beach with the group. He was wearing a pair of shorts and a yellow t-shirt. He was holding a towel and a book inside a bag. Once on the beach, he found a spot in the sand where the group swimming area was, he placed his towel down, and laid down so that the waves from the water would brush up onto his feet, pulled out his book and started reading. The book was about this guy who lives in a forest and when he came of age, had to go through a trial to determine how he would help his village. Would he be like his mother, a historian, or his father, a swordsman, or was a completely different path forged for him? He was currently on chapter 12.
