Becket stepped onto the bridge with calm authority, the soft hum of the warp core vibrating beneath the deck plates. The low murmur of officers at their stations quieted almost instantly as he made his way toward the center chair. He adjusted the cuffs of his uniform tunic, gave a brief glance toward the viewscreen where the stars drifted lazily past, and then lowered himself into the captain’s chair.

He didn’t just sit — he settled in with purpose.

Resting one elbow lightly on the armrest, he activated the chair’s console with a smooth tap of his fingers. Streams of data flickered to life across the small display: engine output stable, shields holding at full integrity, long-range sensors sweeping the surrounding sector. He leaned forward slightly, studying the readouts before reclining back into the seat, steepling his fingers beneath his chin for a moment of thought.

“Status report from all departments,” he said evenly, his voice carrying across the bridge without needing to be raised.

As the operations officer began relaying figures, Becket’s eyes shifted toward the tactical station, then to science, silently gauging the readiness of his crew. He gave a small nod of approval before tapping his console again.

He watched the comm panel blink as the channel opened, drumming his fingers once against the armrest while waiting for the response. Turning his head slightly, he met the gaze of his First Officer and gave a confident nod — a silent signal that everything was proceeding as expected.

Then he straightened in his chair, hands resting firmly on the armrests, eyes forward toward the viewscreen.

“Let’s stay sharp,” he added quietly, his tone calm but unmistakably commanding.

Shinichi stood on the bridge, PaDD in hand, as the Captain came and took his seat. Yoshida rarely took the center seat. When he was manning the bridge, he was often on his feet, bouncing between each station. Currently, he was looking over the status of the onboarding cargo. Lt. Grant, being Chief of Operations, had been placed in charge of the ship’s cargo and manifest. Shinichi was ready for this to be a routine and by the book supply delivery. The Ark Angel had a reputation of being one of the best ships in the fleet, and he would do his utmost to maintain it.

He caught the Captain’s eye and returned the nod before walking over to where he sat. “All seem to be running smoothly, Captain.” He said, “When we arrive, I’m sure you’ll be meeting with the colony leader, so I will take over assigning tasks to our teams. We should not experience any difficulties, sir.”
