<SNIP>“Yes Sir” Soran said and started conducting his scan

USS Ark AngelAs they still investigate everything, they weren’t sure what to expect looking around.

U.S.S. Ark AngelSpenn scanned for life signs. Picking up on a faint signal and following it, he came across a body that was sprawled across the floor. “I have found a member of this Starbase,” Spenn announced to the others, “Unfortunately, they do not appear to be conscious.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Spenn
Chief Medical OfficerOutside the shuttle, Yoshida went over to Spenn to look at the unconscious form. “Is there anything you can give to revive him?” Yoshida asked. He held his phaser rifle ready in his hands as he started to scan the room, looking for any potential hostilities.
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerEzeami stepped out of the shuttle and moved to take up position by the doctor and XO. He began slowly and methodically scanning the perimeter with his eyes, keeping his rifle at the ready. Just as naturally as he used his eyes and ears he reached out with his half Betazoid senses to detect any beings and what feelings and motives they might hold.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
As Ezeami takes position beside the doctor and the XO, the shuttle’s cooling hull ticks softly behind the away team, the sound quickly swallowed by the surrounding stillness. The landing site offers limited cover—jagged rock outcroppings to the north, sparse metallic debris half-buried in the dust to the east, and a wide open approach stretching out toward the facility ahead.
His visual scan reveals no immediate movement. Power signatures from the nearby structure fluctuate faintly, suggesting systems on standby rather than fully active. The area appears intentionally quiet, almost staged.
When Ezeami extends his Betazoid senses, he does not encounter clear, defined thoughts. Instead, he brushes against a low-level emotional haze—unease, tightly controlled and disciplined, held at a distance. It is not wild fear or aggression, but the restrained tension of beings who know they are being watched and are deliberately masking their presence. The impressions feel organized rather than instinctive, implying training and coordination.
There is no immediate hostile intent pressing toward the team, but the emotional residue suggests multiple lifeforms beyond the range of direct sight, positioned to observe rather than engage. Whatever is out there is aware of the away team’s arrival and is choosing patience over confrontation—for now.
The moment hangs, the silence feeling less like safety and more like the calm before a deliberate decision is made.

U.S.S. Ark AngelOOC: Clarifying question: Is Starbase 342 a space station or a ground based facility?
IC: Ezeami moved a little closer to the XO so he could speak softly.
“Sir, I’m sensing multiple beings here, they are aware of us. I’m picking up tension but no overt hostility. I can’t tell if they are from the starbase or not. I’ll stay open to them and keep you apprised.”
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
OOC: it’s a starbase.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelRiley never liked it when thing we’re using shadows to hide. He activated his tricorder to set up a basic sound pulse. (sonar) “ hopefully this will let us see what is out there” he said
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
Yoshida raised an eyebrow at Ezeami. It having a Betazoid certainly was an advantage. “Please do, Lieutenant.” He then moved over to O’Nell to look at the tricorder sound pulse he was setting up, “Smart thinking. Once you get a reading from that, let’s see what we can do about getting the lights back on.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerO’Nell laughed a little bit “I just wish I had packed some flares but if security pack are the same Should security packs have one or two in them” he said as he setup the sonar pulse.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
“To answer your query, Commander Yoshida,” Spenn intoned, responding to the commander’s question if he could revive the Trill male, “I will be able to apply a osteogenic stimulator and dermal regenerator to revive him.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Spenn
Chief Medical OfficerYoshida nodded, “Please do, Doctor,” and then said to Ezeami, “Lieutenant, see if you can find some flares in one of the packs in the shuttle. Don’t light them yet. I don’t want us more exposed than we already are.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive Officer“Aye, sir,” Ollie responded.
He headed quickly back into the shuttle and found several flares in the equipment that had been packed. He strapped his phaser rifle across his back again so he could carry the flare supplies out. Being momentarily unarmed was not his favorite, but he was somewhat comforted by the fact that whoever was here wasn’t giving off hostile vibes at the moment. Ollie returned quickly to the other officers and set out several flares for them before bringing his rifle back to bear.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
OOC: I checked in with Captain Chris, and he said that Jace could just appear with the away team on the station. Let’s just assume he was trying to ‘improve’ the shuttle’s engines and fell asleep in their console, and waited until the others had left before he emerged. - Russell
IC: Jace watched as Doctor Spenn operated on the Trill male, and also when Ollie disappeared back to the shuttle to collect the flares. He tried to remember if he shut the console on the engines before he left the shuttle … but couldn’t.
“Sir and Doctor,” he said, speaking to both Commander Yoshida and Dr Spenn, “do we know if this Trill is joined to a symbiont or not? I do recall mother saying that Symbionts are precious are to check on their needs, and not to just assume whether they are either joined or unjoined. And a request from me,” He paused, thinking on what Counsellor Cross told him, “the Counsellor told me to be myself. I am not seeking to gain several lifetimes of memories and change my surname. I want to be myself and not like my sister, thanks.”
Ensign Jace Vorel, Helm/Ops, Ark Angel
Yoshida gave a thankful nod to Ezeami and then turned to the Ensign who had just joined, “No, Ensign. We do not know anything, which is why Dr. Spenn is trying to resuscitate them, to give us some answers.” Yoshida took a moment to recall what he had read of Vorel from his personnel file. He hadn’t had a chance to have a meeting with him and wasn’t sure if he had time to meet with is department head or the counselor. Yoshida remembered reading that the boy had a reckless streak and a chip on his shoulder, at least, that was hs interpretation of Vorel’s file. He’d need to keep an eye on him while they were here. “Keep your focus on the here and now, Ensign,” Yoshida said, “Don’t let anything personal interfere with this mission. These people need our help and we cannot fail them. Lt. O’Nell, what have you picked up on the Sonar?”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerOllie could understand some of the feelings from Ensign Vorel, being a half Trill himself and unjoined.
“Hey, Ensign Vorel,” he called over to the young man, “I’m the only security officer down here for now and I could sure use an extra pair of eyes, especially one with pilot reflexes. Want to come over here and help me keep watch?”
He gave a quick glance to the XO with a subtle eyebrow raise to ask silently for permission to keep the ensign engaged.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
Ensign Vorel reacted a heartbeat slower than a fully Human officer might have, but Ollie’s words clearly landed. Beneath the surface, the young Trill’s emotions shifted—uncertainty easing into something steadier. There was a familiar undercurrent of self-doubt there, the quiet weight of being unjoined in a culture that so often celebrated those who were not. Ollie’s invitation cut through that neatly, replacing isolation with purpose.
Vorel straightened, reflexively adjusting his stance as if stepping into a cockpit rather than a corridor. His attention sharpened, eyes already beginning to track movement and sightlines around the area. The pilot instincts Ollie referenced were very much present, translating naturally into situational awareness.
The XO caught the subtle glance and answered it with a brief, almost imperceptible nod—approval given without interrupting the flow of the moment. Keeping the ensign engaged was clearly preferable to letting his thoughts spiral.
Vorel moved to Ollie’s side, posture alert but controlled, his presence adding a second layer of vigilance to the watch. Whatever unease he’d been carrying dulled, replaced by the simple clarity of duty shared. For now, at least, he wasn’t just an unjoined Trill or a junior officer waiting to be noticed—he was part of the line, eyes forward, contributing.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelSoral’s presence appeared largely unremarked upon by the rest of the away team. This was acceptable. The lack of engagement permitted uninterrupted focus on his environmental scans, a task he approached with practiced efficiency. As data flowed across his tricorder, a measured curiosity accompanied his analysis—not emotional interest, but the quiet satisfaction derived from observing variables that deviated, however slightly, from established scientific models.
Ensign Soral T’Varan
Science Junior Officer
USS Ark AngelYoshida gave a nod to Ezeami, thinking to himself, Good idea, Lieutenant. put some of the boy’s energy to good use. “Well, we can’t wait around here all day.” the commander said, “Doctor, you and Batario help get the Trill back to the shuttle and try to resuscitate him. The rest of you take cover while Ensign Vorel and Lt. Ezeami assist me and lighting these flares around the shuttle, in the hopes on shedding some light on things. Kaishi!“
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley was working on his tri corder and smiled “ I can make A-rad device. directional sound waves to incapacitate an individual and a non-lethal way.” he said.
Riley can use the phaser like a boss, but he never really felt comfortable using a weapon if the power level was too high, he can easily kill someone. But during war, it was either kill or be killed.
Lt. Riley O’Nell
Ollie grabbed a couple flares for himself and handed a few off to Vorel and Yoshida. It made him a little uneasy having both hands engaged in the work, but luckily with three of them it shouldn’t take long, and having a well lit perimeter around the shuttle would be welcome. At the same time, a small part of him acknowledged that a well lit perimeter would also make the away team more visible to whatever was out there. He kept his Betazoid senses open to them, watching for any signs that those feelings of unease were turning to hostility.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
James walked in the rear of the group, his focus on his tricorder. He was running a full sensor sweep of the area, only following the team with his peripheral vision.
CSO
Yoshida took the Flares from Ezeami and nodded to O’Nell, “Proceed Lieutenant.” He said to the engineer as he began lighting the flares and tossing them to the ground in a lit perimeter, sending bright red sparks of light into the shuttle bay. Hopefully they will be able to get a clearer picture of what they were dealing with. When Dr. Spenn revived the Trill, perhaps they will get some answers.
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerO’Nell activated the sonar scan and pointed to a few areas to toss the flares. The flares spread out across the shuttle bay producing enough light to see clear shapes.
Riley O’Nell (CE)
With more light available to them Ollie decided to push their perimeter out. He unslung the phasor rifle from his back and leveled it in front of him, activating the flashlight. He turned to Ensign Vorel, “Stay close to me, I need those pilot eyes watching my back. We are going to walk this new perimeter. If you see anything I want you to very calmly say my name.”
They moved forward to the edge of the light from the flares and began walking slowly along checking the shuttle bay. As Ollie’s light beam flashed across the floor he noticed some shapes. Focusing more closely on one close to him he saw that it was a body dressed in a Starfleet uniform. Moving his light slightly to the right he saw another body, this one Klingon. He couldn’t sense emotions from them so he assumed they were dead.
“Commander Yoshida, Doctor, I think you had better come take a look at this,” he called calmly over his shoulder. “We have bodies over here. Everyone else be on guard.”
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
Yoshida was keeping his gaze on the two as they walked the perimeter, and when they called out, Yoshida turned to Spenn and said, “Stay with the Trill, Doctor, keep trying to resuscitate him. I’ll go take a look.” He slung off his phaser rifle and moved to join Ezeami and Vorel. “Keep me covered,” He said to Ezeami as he reslung his rifle and went to examine the bodies, beginning witht he Star Fleet Officer.
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerSoral followed the XO, maintaining a steady scan of the surrounding environment as they advanced. Continuous analysis was prudent; unanticipated variables represented an unnecessary risk to the team, and prevention was invariably more efficient than reaction.
Ensign Soral T’Varan
Science Junior Officer
USS Ark AngelOllie took up post by the XO, keeping watch while the senior officer looked over the bodies. As he scanned the area he silently wished they could have a transporter lock at the moment, or at least a full security detail with them down here.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
The trill that the doctor is treating doesn’t respond well to treatment. The flares gives off some sort of scorching residue on the hull inside which appears to be phaser fire that was smudged by accident. NE Ensign Ingram a scientist on Starbase 342 is the only surviving Junior Officer on board. Laying next to a turboshaft 3 clicks away.

U.S.S. Ark AngelI take a scan of the squash marks “ high powered disruptor fire has a Klingon signature, but not 100% there is another energy signature in it” he looked around He starts getting flashbacks from the Dominion war. “Relax O’Nell there are no Dominion here.”
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
“Sir, my scans indicate a surviving member of the starbase personnel, approximately three kilometers from our current position,” Soral reported, his tone even, though his attention lingered momentarily on the anomalous readings accompanying the life sign.
