USS Ark Angel

Check in with Ensign Izak Waryn

Posted by Captain Alex Becket (Commanding Officer) in Check in with Ensign Izak Waryn
Captain Alex Becket sat behind his desk in the ready room, the soft glow of a padd reflected in his focused gaze. The room was quiet save for the low, familiar hum of the USS Ark Angel’s systems, a constant reminder of the ship’s readiness and responsibility. He leaned back slightly, one hand resting against the edge of the desk as he scrolled through the service record displayed before him.
Ensign Izak Waryn’s file unfolded in precise Starfleet formatting—assignments, evaluations, commendations, and notations all laid out with methodical clarity. Becket’s eyes moved carefully from line to line, pausing at key entries, absorbing patterns of conduct and performance rather than isolated moments. Experience had taught him that a service record told a story beyond raw data, revealing discipline, adaptability, and the potential for growth.
He adjusted the padd, bringing up supplemental reports and duty logs, cross-referencing recent actions with prior assessments. The captain’s expression remained neutral, but thoughtful, as he considered how the ensign fit within the broader operational needs of the Ark Angel. Each decision, each observation, carried weight—not only for the ship, but for the officer whose career was still taking shape.
After a final review, Becket allowed himself a brief moment of reflection before securing the file. The padd dimmed as he set it aside, the ready room returning to stillness. Another evaluation complete, another officer measured against the quiet but unwavering standards

Izak couldn’t deny that he was nervous as he headed toward his appointment with the Captain. He’d mentally prepared himself to meet with his Department Head, but thought he’d have a chance to prove himself a bit before meeting the CO personally.

Is there something in my record he flagged? He worried as he entered the turbolift and stood to the side to allow two other people to enter. =^=”Deck 1,” he said absently, barely registering the destinations of the other occupants. ENS Izak Waryn had done quite well at the Academy, but his tenure there was not without its blemishes. No… it has to be routine. I’m sure somebody on the Command Staff would have screened my record before accepting me.

The turbolift arrived on Deck 1, and he made his way to the Ready Room. Like most new Ensigns, he’d studied the deck plans for the USS Ark Angel extensively before arriving. Izak had gone one step further and used the holodeck for additional familiarization.

ENS Waryn arrived at the door and took a moment to look at himself in one of the nearby screens. He ran his fingers through his medium-length blond hair to make it presentable. It tended to get a little disheveled when he worked, but it was easy enough to make it look decent. Izak noted his dark greenish-gray eyes and the faint U-shaped ridges on his nose that marked him as a Brekkian. Finally… he straightened out his uniform and took a deep breath to settle himself.

He pressed the button on the door and awaited permission to enter. “Captain, Ensign Izak Waryn reporting as ordered.”
