As captain Becket had gotten done with his meeting with his new security chief he had decided to go and do a update on his psych eval. He had then gotten up from his chair behind his desk from his ready room and went to turbolift there on the bridge. The doors of the turbolift had then slid wide open and then closed. “Deck 4.” He said to the computer. The computer had then chimed letting him know that it acknowledged his order. As he started to pace around the turbolift it’s door slid wide open after a few minutes. He then stepped off the turbolift and saw the counselors office and then stepped up to the door and rang the chime. Hoping he’d get an appointment in before the crew does it’s mission on starbase 342.

The doors parted a moment or two later and Cross smiled as he saw the Captain. “Captain, come on in. I must admit this is refreshing, I usually need to chase down Commanding Officers.” He grinned as he made his way over the recessed sitting area. “Please have a seat, can I offer you a refreshment this time?”

Counselor Alex Cross

He smiled as he walked in but the sound of him being chased around by the counselor. “Thank you counselor. I’ll have an Earl Grey tea, hot.” He said as he was about to sit down in the chair across from the counselor.

Cross nodded as he ordered two cups tea, Earl Grey, hot from the replicator. Carrying the cups on saucers, set them on the coasters on the coffee table before sitting down across from the Captain.

“I know we spoke a bit of how you suddenly received the command here but tell me, Captain. What brought you into Starfleet?”

Counselor Alex Cross

He sat there. “My parents mostly. They were in Starfleet themselves. They inspired me to join the academy and hopefully find myself having a command of my own someday.” Becket had said to the counselor with a smile.

Cross nodded, “I get that, one of my reasons for joining as well. Did you never consider anything else?”

Counselor Alex Cross

He pondered there for a moment. “Not really. Starfleet was really the only thing I really wanted to do. Be able to command a starship of my own. But other than that no.”

“Ambition is healthy, especially in command officers… but I’m curious, Captain—if command was ever taken off the table, who would Alex Becket be outside the uniform? How would you define yourself beyond the chair?”

Counselor Alex Cross

“If taking this command wasn’t an option, I would’ve decided to teach at the academy. That was always my back up plan if I hadn’t gotten this command. Teaching on the command portion at the academy would’ve been a good thing for those that wanted to go to command classes. But since I did get the command I’m happy. But now beyond the chair believe me I wouldn’t be the same.” He replied back.

“But who is Alex Beckett out of the uniform? How do you see yourself when you are not being the Captain?” Cross tried again, asking the question in a different way thinking he might have confused the Captain with the first way he’d asked the question.

Counselor Alex Cross

He pondered the question. “Oh, I see. When I’m not being the captain. I’m just a chill, laidback civilian in his quarters just reading a book and drinking tea.” He replied.

“Ahh. Well I am glad you are able to take the time to decompress, Captain. That is an important skill as a Commanding Officer. Thank you again, for coming in today, sir. I usually need to drag the Captain’s in here so it’s refreshing not to have to do that.” Cross smiled feeling confident that they had a steady CO on the Ark Angel.

Counselor Alex Cross

He smiled and chuckled a bit. “I can agree on that. I’ve learned over the years I’ve been here on the Ark Angel, weather it was being the Chief Engineer, the Executive Officer or Commanding Officer, I know my limits. Stepping back and allowing my officers to work along side me than against me is what makes the working relationship healthy. Of course as counselor you already know that. Which is the main reason I sent orders to have you transferred here on the Ark Angel.” He smiled even more and nodding.

Cross smiled as he rose to walk the Captain out. “I greatly appreciate that, sir. I am looking forward to serving here and being an asset to your command team”
