USS Ark Angel

Meeting Security Officer

Wyatt walked briskly down the narrow, brightly lit corridors toward the ready room, his boots echoing softly against the metal floor. It was his first assignment, and to say he was nervous would be an understatement—it barely touched the surface of what he was feeling. His chest tightened with each step, and his hands twitched slightly at his sides. He had worked tirelessly to get here, dedicating himself to every lesson, every drill, every simulation. His instructors had often remarked on his sharp mind, praising his ability to strategize under pressure and think quickly on his feet, even if he tended to be quiet and reserved.

Trust had never come easily to Wyatt. His past had taught him caution, the kind that made friendships difficult and connections fleeting. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to rely on others; it was that he had learned the hard way how easily trust could be broken. Even now, as he approached the ready room, he felt the familiar tension of someone who had always been on guard, someone who carried the weight of past betrayals in every careful step.

He paused for a moment, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, trying to calm the rapid rhythm of his heart. He straightened his uniform, smoothing down the crisp lines, and ran a hand through his dark brown hair, forcing himself to focus. This was his chance, and he would do whatever it took to prove himself—not just to his superiors, but to himself.

The stakes felt higher than ever. The captain, the medical team, and even the Head of Security knew his secret. He had heard countless horror stories about people like him being treated poorly—or worse—on other ships. And yet, he had also heard whispers of this captain’s fairness, of a crew that valued skill and loyalty over prejudice. He had clung to those stories like a lifeline, hoping that they were true.

Another deep breath, slower this time, letting it steady him. His hand moved to the control panel beside the door. He pressed the button, and the soft chime echoed through the corridor, announcing his arrival. His pulse surged in anticipation as the door began to slide open, revealing the ready room and the people within. Wyatt squared his shoulders, lifting his chin. This was it—no turning back now.
