Mackenzie hummed softly as she looked around the quarters she was going to take time to unpack properly later. Her first order of business was going to go see Alex report for duty, and if he had time perhaps catch up a bit. If the time wasn’t right well there would be time later.

Alex had walked around the corridor and saw Mackenzie’s name on her quarters door. He had then sighed and stood there for a little. He then stepped up to the door and rang the chime and awaited to enter.

Mac was about to exit her quarters when the chime sounded, she opened the doorway and looked up, seeing her friend Alex; standing there brought a smile to her face. “Ah Alex… oh sorry Captain Becket. I was just about see iffen ye’r free for me to report for duty!” Her eyes sparkled with surprised-delight as she looked up at him.

He nodded to her. “Of course. Of course your free to report to duty. Mackenzie. I am actually off duty was about to go to 17 forward to get dinner. Was wondering of course if your interested on joining me.” He smiled and saw the sparkling surprised delight in her eyes.

“Dinner? I would be delighted to join ye,” she said lightly as she looked up at him. “Though I technically owe ye dinner from our last subspace transmission, I promised ye a meal.”

“That is true. Shall we, my love?” He said with an arm up, awaiting her to latch on.

Mac took his arm and started walking beside him. “I’ve told ye words have power. Iffen ye say it and mean it, folks believe it.” She paused looking up at him. “Iffen ye truly mean that endearment? I will remind ye, if there’s a duty that means I have to go into danger I hope ye’ll respect me duty. I know there’ll be same for ye, slightly less now that ye’r Captain of the ship.” She gave him a soft smile. “Though I can promise I’ll do me best to not go looking for trouble.” She said softly as she kept pace beside him. She had a feeling that they were going to have quite the conversation over dinner.

As they walked to 17 forward, he smiled. “Of course. I would respect you. My mother taught me better than that. Besides Mac, I’m really happy to see you.” He said looking at her with the biggest from on his face.

Mac smiled up at him showing off her dimples. “I am glad to see ye as well Alex, I am looking forward to hearing what ye didn’t say over comms recently. That and what ye’r plans be for me department and I am curious what ye want to plan for the future.”

He heard what she said. “Well Mac. What I want to plan for the future is hopefully being married to you eventually. Now over the time I didn’t say to you over comms is that I love you and I’ve loved you since the year we met. Now for your department. Just hoping to keep it going maybe have a couple of Junior officers for your department and hopefully keep you around as long as you want to be here.” He said with a smile.

She hadn’t been expecting that! Her eyes widened with her surprise and her expression was a funny mixture of surprise and confusion; he really gobsmacked her with his words, before she shook her head slightly and looked up at him. “Are ye seriously telling me that ye have been carrying a torch for me these past years with no hint to me until now?” She said softly though incredulously. Mac had no idea he’d felt that way. Sure they were friends through thick and thin and a few tough spots but to say there was romance? She hadn’t thought of that being a possibility. Mac looked up at him meeting his gaze, “Looks like we’re going to be doing a lot of talk. For now let’s see how it goes if that’s okay with ye?”

He smiled at her as he looked and met her gaze. “Of course. Besides, with the whole duty station change from the Saracen to here in the Ark Angel. I just couldn’t find the words to tell you.” He said with a little uncertainty. “However,” he paused and then smiled. “The transfer was a nice transfer. Me going from Ensign on the Saracen to Lieutenant J.G. here on the Ark Angel as chief engineer. Then a few months later, got promoted to Lieutenant Commander as executive officer. Then now. Not even 3 months of being Executive Officer of the ship, I was promoted to Captain and was given the command of the Ark Angel.” He said giving her reassurance that anything between them will be between them only. “I just didn’t really find the way to tell you after all these years about my transfer from the Saracen to here on the Ark Angel. I wanted to surprise you. Besides, Starfleet command wanted a new department on the Ark Angel and brought up to my attention of Chief Diplomatic Officer. They sent me a list of all the current officers but also the reserved officers. You were on the current officer list. And I chose you for this position not only because of our past with each other but you are a good officer and your very diplomatic. That’s why I chose you to be here. Your not just a somebody to me. Your my friend but also lover that you and I both know that it is true and we both know we work very well together.” He went into her gaze once again and said that to her. To make her feel loved and welcome on board.
