Tanis was again on the move as he headed to the counseling room area of the ship on deck 11. As he closed on the are he needed he went to the reception are to sign in for a meeting with the counselor. As he took a seat as he waited for the counselor.

The office door whooshed open as the Counselor stepped out. He paused for a moment as if surprised to see someone sitting there. “Ah, you are here for your psych exam, Ensign? Come in.” He stepped back and indicated the sitting area that was recessed to the side of his office. It held a sectional couch and two winged back chairs.”Please, have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?” Cross offered as he headed to the replicator.

“Yes! Thank you, sir, a glass of iced water.” Tanis asked kindly as he made his way over towards one of the wingback chairs and took a seat calmly.

“My pleasure, Ensign.” Cross said as he ordered two water, and carried them other to the coffee table. Setting them down on the coasters before sitting down himself in the matching wing chair.

“So tell me about yourself, Ensign? What brought you into Starfleet?”

“Well, i joined Starfleet to have a better chance to explore the galaxy and have a more fulfilling career than staying on Betazed. And have more social interactions with other races and learn new things.” Tanis said calmly as he sipped his iced water.

It was a very typical answer, and to give himself time to study the other man and decide where to take things, Cross sipped his own water again.
“Tell me about your upbringing on Betazed?”
He persuaded to see if he could get the Ensign to open up a bit.

“Well, that is a complicated subject. My mother is a very strong and opinionated woman, and also the head of the household. My father is a bit more reserved in nature, but a very loving and gentleman person. Plus, I have several siblings, most of whom are now in Starfleet. It was a rather strict upbringing. a lot of studying, and there was little time for fun. We were lucky to have time on our birthday to let our hair down as it were. And after dealing with the classes at the university. I applied to the academy. This ship is my second posting. After a short stint on the USS Viking.” Tanis said calmly.

“Ah, how did you find the Viking? I have heard that she was a good ship.” Cross asked. He had one of his Starfleet class mates that served on the Viking and he still had contact with her occasionally.
