Shortly after squaring away his quarters, Soral T’Varan made his way to the Chief Science Officer’s office. Starfleet regulations required that he formally report to his department head upon arrival, and Soral adhered to such protocols without deviation.

He paused outside the doorway, briefly inspecting his uniform—creases aligned, insignia properly positioned, no visible imperfections. Satisfied that it met both Starfleet standards and Vulcan expectations, he straightened his posture.

Soral raised his hand and activated the door chime.

He waited patiently, hands clasped behind his back, expression composed and unreadable. Whatever response followed would determine the next logical step in his integration aboard the USS Ark Angel.

“Enter” A singsongy voice called from behind the door.

The office of the Ark Angel’s Chief Science Officer was simple, a corner desk with a large display to monitor the various labs. The window overlooking the main lab was set to opaque. There was a small counter at the far wall behind the desk, which had a small potted plant, three physical books and a photo frame which was rotating several different holopics. James Grey, the Science Department head, stood and was watering the plant. He was in his mid-fifties, with black hair slicked back, greying at the temples and blue eyes that somehow maintained a mischievous glint. He was very tall, at least 6‘5” and thin, a slightly lean build. A familiar face to T’Varan, as Grey had been an instructor for Xenoanthrobiology and Advanced Quantum Physics just a few years ago during the Vulcan’s tenure at Starfleet Academy, although he looked less haggard and no longer walked with a cane

He turned and smiled at Soral “Ensign, please have a seat. Care for some refreshments? I have some spiced Raalian tea” He gestured to a Vulcan teapot on his desk, a gift from his own tenure at the Vulcan Science Academy.
