Ollie was silently going through the checklist of all the things he had to do to get settled in. It had taken no time at all to set up his few belongings in his quarters and meeting with the CO had been painless. He now had to deal with psych and medical exams. Most people seemed to dread this part but Ollie didn’t mind. It might have been a different story back before his Academy days but he considered himself fairly fit lately. He had heard the counselor’s invitation and decided he might as well get that done and had made an appointment.

Arriving at the counseling suites on Deck 11, he rang the chime to announce his presence and took a seat.

LTJG Ezeami - COS

The door swooshed open within a few moments to show a young black man in medical blues, standing to just side of the door. “ Lieutenant Ezeami, please come in and make yourself comfortable.” Cross said hand held out in invitation toward the sectional seating area in a lowered area of his office. There were two wing chairs opposite the sectional giving choice for where he might choose to sit. “Can I get you anything?” Cross asked as he made his own way toward the replicator while Ezeami made himself comfortable.

“Thank you, counselor,” Ollie made his way to the sectional and plopped down in the corner piece, appreciating the comfort. “I wouldn’t mind some pineapple juice. I haven’t had a chance to check out the replicator’s proficiency in all my favorites yet.”

He relaxed back into the couch and waited for the counselor with a smile.

Cross smiled as he ordered two pineapple juice, it was a beverage he hadn’t had in a while and it would be refreshing. “I have found that it has a rather large menu actually. Even Creole which I greatly appreciate.” Cross said as he turned and set the two glasses on a coaster on the coffee table that sat between the sectional and the two wing chairs. He himself took the chair that was across from Ezeami.
“I must admit that as you were a last minute transfer, Lieutenant that I have not had time to familiarize myself with your service record yet. Why don’t you tell me a bit about yourself. What brought you to Starfleet and this position?”

Ollie took one of the glasses and took a sip of the juice. It was indeed refreshing. He set the glass back on the coaster with a contented sigh.

“There were a few tweaks I had to make to some recipes on the Ogawa to get them just right, but pineapple juice is hard to mess up,” he said with a smile. “Let’s see, I guess my story is a little bit interesting. I grew up on Earth, in Hawai’i. My parents had settled there after the Dominion War. My dad is Trill and a scientist, my mother is Betazoid and is a bit of a free spirit. I had some trouble fitting in as a kid so I was a bit of a troublemaker. I got into surfing and won a few trophies, which added to my big ego and more trouble. Somewhere around the start of high school I decided that running around the galaxy on a starship would be pretty cool so I set my sights on the Academy. My parents helped me see that my troublemaking was not going to be an asset on my application so I tried to clean up my act a little bit. Science and tinkering were not ever really my thing so I decided to go the security route and somehow made it through. I was first posted on the Ogawa, which was a great environment. I learned a lot there and then got promoted and the opportunity came up for the chief of security here on Ark Angel. I figured it was time for a new challenge.”

he paused for another sip of pineapple juice and then grinned at the counselor. “So that’s my story.”

Cross smiled, “Ah, were you drawn to adrenaline type sports and activities then when you were younger?” He asked trying to get a sense of the man. He sounded like a man who liked action and activity.

“Yeah, I was in the water since I could walk basically. I got into surfing in grade school. Did a lot of hiking through the jungle and some cliff diving. I can climb all sorts of trees including a coconut tree. I guess all that counts as adrenaline seeking,” he chuckled remembering some of those times back on the islands.
