Tak grumbled mentally as they dragged a too-large bag behind them, walking backwards as they tried to get it up the ramp to the shuttle. Why did they have to adopt two kids? No, that wasn’t fair. They loved the little rascals. Even if Kota was getting more and more independent and needed them less.

She’d be off to the academy soon, Tak mused. Until recently they hadn’t thought their daughter would go for Starfleet, but a certain musical group had changed her perspective. Now she wanted to be just like Buddy and the Breen. Starfleet and all. Tak smiled, quietly wondering what department Kota would apply for. She was a quiet, artistic child. Tak thought maybe Counseling. They’d mention it to her later.

And Paku. Growing up so fast. They were glad the captain and whoever was in charge of their missions had been somewhat gracious and send the Ark Angel close to GOK Alliance territory. Paku’s Hunt would be a quick weekend trip. Tak had even extended an invitation to a few of their crewmates to attend the celebration feast, where all attendees would cook and eat whatever Paku hunted.

They finally got the bag up the ramp and leaned against the wall to catch their breath, eager to see if anyone would join them.

As commander Becket was walking around he came into the shuttle bay. He had noticed that Ensign Tak was there. He didn’t want to seem intrusive to them. He was in there with his pad and looked up. “Hello Ensign Tak. Heard you are going back home if I’m correct. I don’t want to intrude.” He said looking at them and then back at his pad.

“Hello, Becket,” Tak lifted a hand in greeting. “Yes, we are going to my homeworld. Only for a short visit, though. Paku is getting older, and there are certain… um, coming of age rituals that I do not want him to miss out on. This one is called the ‘First Hunt,’ and it is a rather important one.”
