Tom gave his uniform a tight pull to make sure it was in perfect order. First impressions were important to him, the man he was about to meet would likely shape the course of his career for years to come. Tom reached up and press the door bell the familiar chirp echoed within the office.

“Welcome to the team. ” a winged security officer said as she passed by. Most likely headed out on patrol. She did not give the new comer a chance to respond as she tired the corner and was gone.

Tom shifted slightly to not get run over by the departing ensign, “Tha....” he started to responded but cut him self off as he realized it was a futile effort. He looked into the office to see if the chief was in as the door started to close.

Tom watched as the door slid shut, he pressed the chime one more time.

Lieutenant Ander might be busy he thought as his mind drifted off to home , San Francisco how he missed it. There was something special about it, how much of it’s character remained after so many centuries. He missed his family most of all they were all so close all the time. Living away from them was like living without a part of himself.

Rounding the corner of the office as the door almost closed, the tall, athletic figure of Lieutenant Kyle Anders greeted the officer in the doorway, “Sorry lad, up to me eyes in paperwork! Come on in, can I get you anything?”

Tom Smiled slightly as the door opened once again. “No problem sir I have not been here long.” he flowed Anders back into the office. “I’m ok for now Sir but thank you” Tom tried to pin down the accent but failed. He looked around the office trying to get some idea about the man he would be working for. “Ensign Thomas Reed, reporting for duty sir.” He stated and held a relative form of attention.

“Take a seat lad,” Kyle said with a grin, “What made you want to transfer to the ArkAngel?”

“It’s my first assignment sir, I wanted to get out into deep space, life on a star base seemed less than interesting. ” he paused and looked around the room as if searching for something .” I don’t know something about being on a ship this large with such diverse mission options seemed like as good of a start as any”

Tom thought on that a moment. “I specialized in crisis management and tactical operations mainly. It was a great experience.” he said semi regurgitating what was likely in his file. “I have played violin since I was a child and was first chair in starfleet academy orchestra.” he said with a little bit of pride.

Reed thought on that for a moment jazz was not something he played much but he did play other things. “Not on violin no, but i have played some on the the upright” he said a little more interested. “You play then?” he asked

Smiling broadly it was nice to have other musicians to play with. “That sounds like a blast I would love to play with someone else. Are there others? maybe we could start a lounge band” he said with a semi serious tone.

Reed smiled he loved to play, it was an escape to some other place, a shifting in his mind set. “I look forward to it” he responded. looking around the room trying to learn what he could about the man’s taste.

Thomas shifted slightly in his chair and smiled, “Well Sir I just graduated, the Arc Angel is my first assignment.” he noted. Not wanting to leave the conversation complete void of explanation of experience he continued. “I specialized in close quarters, anti boarding techniques, hostage retrieval things of that nature.”

Reed Chuckled at the black ops comment but waited to respond. “Well I has element lead most of the training cycle, but nothing in field” he noted.

He leaned forward in his chair a little. “Have we been seeing a lot of action Sir, or just close calls?” he asked interested to find out what kind of engagements he would likely be dealing with.

“We’re in a period of change Mr Reed,” Kyle said thoughtfully, “We’ve got a new CO for a start.”

“I had not seen the notice on that, who is taking over?” he asked shifting back in his chair and taking a drink of water.

“Well,” Kyle corrected himself, “Acting CO would be more appropriate, Commander Donoghuei stepped in for a while. Makes me the second highest ranking officer on board,” he chuckled, “Guess we’re both seeing a change of pace.”

Reed smiled, “Nothing wrong with extra responsibility if there is anything I can do to assist let me know sir,. ” he said he looked around the man’s officer briefly waiting to see what his boss had called him here for.

Reed looked at him and smiled. “Just my Academy float sir” he noted “This is my first time aboard ship since graduation.” he said with a hint of excitement

Reed thought on the statement a little, “He is certainly that, he is well studied but I think what makes him such a great teacher is his ability to communicate what he knows. So that others can hold onto it” he suggested.
