The office of Admiral Li Yanmin certainly had more green than the last occupant had opted for, all manner of tropical plants and vines were found along walls and tables featuring dark, heavy wood. An organic look inside juxtaposed with the hustle and bustle of ships so easily visible out of the office’s enormous viewport walls, the Ark Angel docked could even be seen from any of her guests’ chairs.

Li sat alone in her office reading between two PaDDs in advance of her appointment with the Ark Angel’s acting Commanding Officer. One was larger hosting maps overlaid with specifications from the upcoming mission, she soon set that down on her desk to focus on the personnel reports of the Ark Angel’s bridge crew. Li was hopeful that Donoghuei’s engineering background would be an asset, perhaps shift the mission’s likelihood of success closer to normal. Close to likely to would be good enough.

Ciaran arrived at Admiral Li’s office. He meet who he assumed was Officer Harrison when he arrived at the office. I am Lt Cmdr Donoghuei. I believe Admiral Li is expecting me. He then waited for a responce from the officer. Ciaran was expecting to hear information about who his new commanding officer was going to be during this meeting, along with potential information about the next mission. Ciaran was ready to get started again after losing the commodore.

Harrison was led into Li’s office where she gestured at one of the seats for him to take. “Welcome, Commander. I’m Admiral Li Yanmin, I’ve been looking forward to meeting you,” she said. The woman set down her PaDDs, picked up a rather large third one from the table and handed it to him. Next came a small black box placed on the glasstop desk in front of him, commemorative from promotions. “Before I get to what’s on that PaDD, and what you and your ship will be asked to achieve, I’d like to let you know that Star-Fleet Command - and I - have noted your ability in commanding the Ark Angel and getting her back here to Starbase 243 in a timely manner, given the circumstances.”

Admiral Li rose to her feet, looked across the desk to Ciaran and held out her hand for his to shake. “Congratulations, Captain Ciaran Donoghuei. You’ll have a lot of eyes on you, Captain, with much faith and expectation,” she stressed, offering him a friendly smile and firm shake. She gestured to the box, and within it were two solid pips to make the rank visible.

Ciaran was taken back from the promotion. He did not expect to be promoted without being the rank of commander first. He had expected to be hearing about his new captain but not it being himself. He then looked at the admiral and said, “I am honored and this was very unexpected. I had come here to hear about the new captain of the Ark Angel but did not expect to be in the running.” He then smiled and took the two new pips for his new rank of Captain. He went ahead and put them on his uniform and waited to hear if the admiral had new orders for the Ark Angel.

“Well, I for one am glad you’re already acquainted,” the Admiral said. She turned her chair just away from facing Ciaran so she could gesture towards the Ark Angel in view. “Your ship, Captain,” she reiterated with emphasis, “will be outfitted with the Planetary Colonization Mission Module with a total of 300 colonists and their equipment in board. Your destination is the Morvalian Corridor just beyond Epsilon Librae. Well outside of Federation space.”

“A convoy of colonists in slower ships will be a few months behind you, your initial efforts are key to a multi-year mission’s success,” she said. “They will have luxury of slowing and changing their course to avoid ion storms in the region getting there,” she said, “You will not. Protect your crew and ship but this phase of the mission is already behind schedule.”

”… Now, the difficult parts,” she said, unable to suppress the smallest of grins, “Unmanned probes have been effectively useless at mapping the interiors of the stellar nurseries and denser star clusters. We have multiple theoretical colony candidates across two systems in an area we need a comm array maintained, but we aren’t certain of any readings. You will arrive and determine which option - or options - to pursue with detailed survey in addition to deploying that comm array.”

“Once successful, your ship will be able to continue on exploring the Corridor while the colony is built up into a functional outpost. Your crew is welcome to the Starbase during the module swap, but I expect you to be underway as soon as that’s complete and the colonists are aboard. Any questions, Captain?”
