“Okay.. okay. It’s just like checking in with a professor. It’s fine. I’ll be fine.” Sage mumbled to herself before standing straight and ringing the bell. This is what shes trained for, this is what she went to school for!

This new uniform didn’t help, she looked great but the stiff shoulders and the not broke in shoes didn’t help either. It’s fine it will be fine. She’ll impress the boss and keep her head down and get comfortable. She promised her parents that she wouldn’t get into too much trouble.

“You must be Doctor Evergreen?” Gavin asked as he approached the woman from behind. The CMO holstered his medical tricorder and retrieved a PaDD from his back pocket. “I’m Doctor Stacey, CMO, welcome aboard.” The man extended his arm for the new crew member to shake in turn.

Gavin knew he was expecting a new officer after John left mid-mission, but he didn’t believe he’d have a replacement for another 6 months.

“Ah yes, that is me!” She shook his hand, giving a confident yet nervous smile. “It’s nice to meetyou Dr. Stacey, I am happy to be here.” She stepped aside to let him into the door, following behind him.

“I am sorry if I caught you at a bad time, I ended up getting here earlier than I expected.” She hadn’t expected to be here this early, having planned for 4 days from now but here they were.

“Oh you’re fine, I don’t get off shift for another half hour anyway,” The CMO replied as they stepped into his office. Gavin approached his desk but turned around. “We might as well get your physical out of the way too,” He said, gesturing towards the door that led into Sickbay.

Nodding, Sage went through the sick bay doors and sat down on one of the beds. “Thanks for killing two birds with one stone. Probably will make it easier anyways.” She rambled on for a moment, watching Gavin grab all the necessary items.

Tricorder, PADD, all the essential things.

“How long have you been the CMO?”

“A little under a year now, I think,” The doctor replied. Gavin pulled out his tricorder and began a routine scan of the head. “When I boarded as a new Ensign, the Ark Angel didn’t have a Chief Medical Officer, so after my first mission I was promoted to fill the vacancy.” He explained. Gavin finished up the head scans and moved lower to the torso area.

“On the AA, even as a medical officer, you can still find yourself fighting plasma fires or chasing after wolves loaded with nanites,” The CMO added, laughing.

“Oh that’s wonderful” Sage laughed, keeping as still as she could for the scan. Thankfully nothing was found, or at least nothing should be found. She was feeling great.

“Well hopefully you enjoy the role?”

Gavin nodded in reply. “It’s not an overly difficult position until I have to run around chasing people for their annual physicals,” He laughed, “But, It is quite rewarding in that I have the ability to take on a few research projects of my own.”

The CMO took a look a the tricorder and found nothing out of the ordinary on the scans. After ensuring the data went to the doctor’s medical file, he closed the tricorder and turned back to Evergreen. “Since you’re green across the board, you’ll be able to get work after you settle into your quarters.” Gavin stated, “You should try and meet up with a few of your colleagues as well.”
