USS Ark Angel

Away team: Trying to save the nanites

[snip]

Both NEs offered over their phasers to the chief engineer. As for the rest doing scans, nothing remained functional/alive in the broken tanks, they were either now most likely inside the wolves nearby, or had ceased functioning. Conversely analyzing the fluids they used, would no doubt take weeks or more to fully analyze, the tricorder could only pick up the basics right now, one part was simple water, another showed some kind of processed moss from the cave/ground, and then there was numerious chemicals and enzymes that were alien in nature it couldn’t identify.

Kaden took the two phasers and said, “Thank you.” He then started putting together the phasers in what he hoped would be enough to continue to power the container while they figure out what is needed in order to create more to house more of the population. After a few minutes, he finished combining the phasers and attempted to connect it to what appeared to be the power port on the machine. He was hoping it would work but you never knew, especially when dealing with new technology which not federation. He was hoping it would work.

Lt., j.g. Buchanan Outgoing Chief Engineering Officer

There was a brief click, then flicker and spark as the connection was made. But then the flickering control panel and fading light of the silver-green liquid in the last pod stabilized even rising some to a slightly brighter color tone. The console formerly a silver-red warning like color stabilized to a more simple silver-white tone with various blinking yellows and greens replacing dark red and flashing urgent red color tones. Scans showed the nourishment liquid inside the last pod was stable and the nanites had more stable power signals.

Finally the static and perhaps fearful toned nanite voice over the commbadge spoke, =/\= Thank you, strangers. Power is stable. Those of us that remain in stasis will not go quiet. =/\= It said. Obviously the UT was not 100% translating word for word, but it was close enough.

They could now communicate freely with the nanites if they so wished. As for a container likely moving them was outside the scope of their ability for now. The liquid alone would require weeks of study by more specialized teams of scientists and engineers then the Ark Angel had. The rigged up batteries though would give plenty of time for someone to go back up to the surface and update the Commodore on things and how to best proceed.

Gavin had found that the broken containers and the nanites couldn’t be salvaged and had returned to the group just as the nanites had finished speaking. The CMO didn’t know what else they could do to remedy the situation.

“That power source isn’t going to last much longer is it?” The Doc asked.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Gavin Stacey Chief Medical Officer

T’Mor shook her head as a subtle sign of frustration, “It would take a dedicated science team a significant amount of time to analyze the environment inside the chambers, and likely even more time to successfully replicate it.” she reported.

“Nanite colony…” she started her her communication with them, “Apologies, I do not know what you wish to be called… The solution we have found for your power issue is temporary. Perhaps you may assist us in finding a more stable solution?”

T’Mor waited for their response with hidden anticipation.

=/\= We have no identity in this state, nor desire on preference what to be called. Colony though will suffice for now. =/\= They said, =/\= we lack data nodes to the computer databanks of the Creators. We can not assist in your request. If this situation is temporary then we would ask for further aide if possible. We do not wish to go quiet and dark. =/\= The ones in the tank went on.

“Someone should alert the Commodore,” Doctor Stacey stated to the rest of the team, “She’ll be able to call for a science vessel if the nanites aren’t able to come up with a quick fix.” Gavin was well aware that the nanites wouldn’t be able to patch themselves up on their own, though. The CMO felt useless for the moment. Had these been more corporeal, he would be able to assist more.

NE Boston spoke, one of the security NEs, “..I’ll go with NE Chad here, we could maybe setup a relay point from the surface..” he said nodding to Chad the two went away,. About 10 minutes later a somewhat clear though static comm beep came in with the Commodore’s voice.

=/\= –done here. Our sig– is spotty but we got infor– –hat is going on by NE Chad. I am putting a call to –arth and Starfl– for a full support team. ETA will be 3-4 days. For now we’re tra— down two emergency fusion generators. This sho— stabilize them for several months easi– for now inquire with them if they will be a problem in the futur– for the colony here. And what their intent— are if saved. =/\= She said.

OOC: Insert someones reply to the question here, if you’re unsure ooc what I was asking with Drudoc ask me ooc.

Once someone asked the colony in the tank replied, =/\= We simply wish to not go quiet or dark. We wish to exist. Programming by the Creators was never completed on our purpose. Those of the colony who inhabit the creatures near you now have fully integrated with their biology, and can not be removed. They are as one now. We wish to find purpose, for this we would seek guidance from those on the surface. =/\= The colony replied.

After again Drudoc being informed of this her response soon came, =/\= Tell this colo— that this is acceptable for now. That more special— teams are to arrive in the next 3-4 solar cyc–. We request that the wolves inhabi— by the nanites not interfere agai— with the colony or its livestock. Any futur– or purpose of discovery they wis— to make is the— once the teams finish. =/\= She said.

Again the colony replied, =/\= We accept, we have no purpose to threaten the surface colony of people. The earlier attack by those in what you call wolves was due to their earlier damaged state, and will not happen again. We will await your longer power supply provision and your team to help. =/\= It said.

After another exchange Drudoc spoke =/\= Fusion generators are enroute, once installed return to the surface and return to the Ark Angel. Andone out =/\=

Sure enough 15 minutes later NE Chad and NE Boston returned with two engineering NEs who quickly set up the fusion generators which quickly took over the need of supply for the colony in the tube. The nanite enhanced wolves meanwhile remained further out of the way now more trusting it seemed then before. With their job done the teams would soon return to the surface safely and then the ship.

A day later after observation the first science teams showed up with more to come. The Ark Angel was relived of its mission as complete and after a brief layover for a day in the Sol system nearby returned a week later to Starbase 243 for their next mission.

For their aide all of those present were given notations of distinguished service for the safety of the human colony and the first contact of the nanites.

==End Sim==

OOC: If anyone wishes to note this in their bio of events as an award of service it would be listed as Meritorious Distinguished Service Grade 1 - December 2399 (the sim started in 2399, current stf year will be 2400 at the start of next mission here!
