[snip]”..Do any of you foresee any security risk to opening a communication channel to the nanites? We it seems can not learn more either way unless we do so..” she inquired
GM Cockroach
“Even as Security Chief,” Kyle responded, “I have to admit that the advantages outweigh the risks at this point Commodore.”
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
Drudoc nodded, giving the motion to go ahead with the communication line.
The doctor waited in anticipation for what was about to come. While he wasn’t going to involve himself directly in the communications, Gavin was going to monitor the specimen’s life signs to see how it responded to comms.

=^= Computer=^= T’Mor directed, resisting any sort of hesitation =^=Open a channel on the same frequency as the nanites’ communication. Output any audio, as well as visual analysis, through this console. =^=
=/\= Processing.....beep channel open =/\= The computer intoned.
Perhaps a visual analysis would not be necessary. Her reasoning though was that if the signals where not directly translatable, it could help them in finding patterns and decoding their meaning.

“Eyes up people,” Kyle said aloud, though not to anyone in particular.
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
The first sound to come through was like a sound of rushing air with a series of clicks. There was a pause then the pattern repeated but with a more hesitant pattern in tone. The enhanced mouse meanwhile squeaked in a pattern similar to both opening lines. Its head on the second pattern tilted as it curious.
Drudoc spoke noting the movement on the mouse, then since this was possibly a First Contact she spoke, “..I am Commodore Drudoc Andone, commanding officer of the USS Ark Angel of the United Federation of Planets. Can you understand us?..” She said.
There was another pause, as the computer translated and rebroadcast in a subspace digital pattern similar to what the opening two lines had been. After another ten seconds, the click and wind sounding pattern replied, and the enhanced mouse gave a double nod movement of its head.
Looking to the staff, “..Well it would seem they can understand us, but we as of yet can not understand their response..” She said. Considering this she looked to T’Mor “..Lieutenant, run the responses we got through a subspace data stream, then have that output if any retranslate back into spoken or auditory or visual examples. The signal clicks could be data ‘speech’..” She said.
Once T’Mor would do this they could get a repeat of the patterns this time in a digitized voice, =/\= Alien species near us. We reach out to greet the alien species. =/\= the first pattern said, =/\= Can you receive us? The host you provided does not speak upon the same wave patterns as the alien species does near it. =/\= The second pattern said, finally the response to Drudoc came through, =/\= Yes we understand you, Commodore Drudoc Andone, commanding officer of the USS Ark Angel of the United Federation of Planets. =/\= It said.

T’Mor couldn’t help that her eyes went wide. Sure, it wasn’t a new plant species, but it was a whole new apparently sentient life form. Which was exciting enough. She was in the room during official first contact. That had to mean something, right?
|Lt., j.g. T’Mor,
Chief Science Officer|“I’ll be damned,” Kyle whispered.
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
“It’s somewhat calming not to hear ‘We are the Borg’, when it involves nanites,” Gavin added. The CMO continued to monitor the life signs of the specimen to see how it reacted to communication on this level.

Tak’s eyes widened in wonder and they settled back, standing out of the way.
