Emily had finished her visit with the counselor and returned to Main Engineering to start getting her work done.

Kaden saw the the young ensign is back. He looked over at her and responded, “Ensign Bradford. Welcome back to engineering. Were you able to get your medical and pysc eval taken care of? I have some news for you. I am going to be stepping away and thus standing down from being the Chief Engineer. Lt DeLaney will be taking over as the new chief. Can you please go ahead and go speak to him please? Thank you.” He was sad to have to be leaving after a short time but he knew it was important to take care of the family issues which have come up. He waited for a response from Ensign Bradford.

John sat at his desk in the Chief Engineer’s office, poring over the latest reports from the last duty shift. His brow furrowed in concentration as he scrutinised the data, his mind already racing ahead to the various repairs and optimisations that needed to be made.

In the midst of his analysis, he couldn’t help but overhear the conversation between Kaden and Ensign Bradford. His ears perked up slightly at the mention of his name and he wondered if he should shut and seal his door, unfortunately being chief meant actually delegating and working with others so perhaps he could find one or two competent people he could tolerate wasnt such a bad idea.

But for now, John remained focused on his work, silently observing from behind the glow of his terminal screen. He had learned long ago not to interfere in matters that didn’t directly concern him or at least he didn’t think that should concern him, preferring instead to let events unfold naturally. And so, he continued to watch and wait, knowing that sooner or later, the distraction would inevitably find its way to his doorstep.
