T’Mor sat and stared, a jumble of t’an rods in front of her. She had been working on this game of Kal-toh for about 15 minutes. It was an exercise in focus, trying to suppress the more chaotic thoughts that had been distracting her.She had sent several personal messages informing others of her promotion. Solkar had already sent a message expressing his approval, ‘As I expected, you have proven your abilities to Star Fleet. This success reflects well on both of us.’ he had said. Neither her sister or her mother had responded. She could help that she felt hurt by their disinterest. But she wouldn’t dare admit that, especially to them.
So T’Mor focused on something else, the game in front of her.

Cerenity entered the rec area. The five year old walked right up to T’Mor. ” That a Vulcan game right? She asked.
Cerenity“Indeed,” T’Mor responded, though still focused on the pieces in front of her, “It is called Kal-toh.”
She made her next move, removing a rod and replacing it somewhere else. The whole structure shifted, now resembling a sort of three-dimensional star.~€> T’Mor, Acting Chief Science Officer
” How do you play” She asked. Watching the game intentionally. Here mind already trying to put together how the game worked. ” I get that you move the suports around but what is the goal” She asked.
Cerenity“The goal,” T’Mor stated, picking up another piece, “Is to organize the structure into a spherical shape. To do so, is to successfully master the chaos inherit within the game, through the application of… logic.”
T’Mor placed the piece, again shifting the structure, this time to resemble a lop-sided cube. She exhaled, showing a slight hint of frustration.

Cerenity picked a rod from the top and moving it lowere. The shape shifted to being slitly less lopsided. ” I think it’s close” she said.
CerenityT’Mor tilted her head slightly looking at the game. While Cerenity move did seem to help at first, it made T’Mor hesitate. It appeared the child might have even lost her the game.
“Yes,” she said. “Though, sometimes when it seems like you are getting closer to a solution…”
She was about to say, * ‘you are actually putting yourself in a less than advantageous position’* But at the five-year-old girl, she stopped herself. This is why she couldn’t be a good Vulcan parent. Questioning the child’s optimism, no matter how logical the reasoning, was pointless, discouraging even.
She took a look at it again. Suddenly, the next move seemed clear, blatantly obvious even.
“Sometimes you realize it wasn’t as difficult as you thought it was going to be.” she said, moving a piece and shifting the shape once more.
“It is your move,” she said with a small gesture, inviting the girl to keep playing.
|Lt., j.g. T’Mor,
Chief Science Officer|She watched then looked at the peace tiling her head sidways. She was studying the structer she opened her wings and flapped them hovering in the air to give her a difrent view. It was several minutes. She landed.
” I think this one” She said moving a peace and waching the shape shifted.
” You know mommy dose not like Scientist vary much do you think this game would help her” She asked.
Cerenity“Perhaps,” T’Mor responded, “It is not beyond possibility.”
She remembered her previous interaction with Ensign Luna. Judging from what she had said, what happened to the Ensign in the name of ‘science’ was deplorable. It would make sense that someone who was emotionally inclined would hold resentment because of that. She made another move, the shape getting closer to the goal.
|Lt., j.g. T’Mor,
Chief Science Officer|She nodded ” do you like being a scientist” She asked as she studied the the game. The little girl took her time choseing her next move the shape shifted again.
” Did you always want to join Starfleet ” She asked.
Cerenity“My research is… fulfilling,” T’Mor replied. “I suppose one could say I ‘like’ it. I began studying botany with my father when I was very young, maybe about your age. I wanted to continue my research at the Vulcan Science Academy but…” she trailed off. She didn’t know what was compelling her to share such personal information with a child. Maybe because she just needed someone to talk to about it.
“Working with Star Fleet was a better choice for me.”

” What’s the Vulcan Science academy is it a school?” She asked excitedly.
Cerenity“It’s a very… important school, on Vulcan,” T’Mor replied, keeping in mind that she was explaining to a child,
” Do they explore space?” she asked
“Some people believe it is the best school for learning about different types science. It is very difficult to qualify, to become a student there.”
The topic made her slightly uncomfortable, as she found herself looking down toward the floor. Almost appearing upset, except for her stoic facial expression. She looked up from the floor toward Cerenity,
“Is there anything you really like to learn about?” she asked as an attempt to change the topic.

“well, I like taking things apart and fixing them, I also really like medical science I used to help in the Medbey when mom was stationed on the Leviathan, I guess I don’t really have a favorite thing to study. I do know I want to join Star Fleet so i can help people like Mommy” she said happily
