As the sample got placed near the metal sample, there was a small sign of increase in the power fluctuation of the metal shard. The organic material was soon partly absorbed around the metal shard. Scans showed that the shard’s effects on the biological piece caused a sort of accelerated decomposition of the material in question down to the point of it having 10% material left, at which point it stopped for some reason. Beyond this there did not seem any obvious other effects like what they observed with the wolf pack. Perhaps it was due to it being such a small piece? Or perhaps some other lack of reason.

Kane’s frowned deepend as he looked at the rapid degradation of the biological sample. “That’s concerning… Though I wonder why it’s causing the rapid degradation… maybe as a internal molecular rewrite sequence?” He paused to ponder. “The other concern is where it seems to be getting power… or if it’s potentially powering itself off of the biological material… like a biomass reactor would…” He sounded more troubled at this observation. =^= Computer, is the shard emitting any harmonics, radiation, or emitting any other known particles or frequencies?=^=

After getting the all clear from Ensign Luna, T’Mor was able to get back to an area with less interference and be beamed to the lab. The acting science officer took a moment to observe what was on the table. It looked cybernetic in nature, so she was grateful that the Chief Engineer was here to assist. She kept a reasonable distance from the device. Though maintaining her stoic demeanor, she was concerned.

“Welcome back T’Mor, Luna all ok down there?”

“Our team discovered something… unexpected. Luna is handling the situation adequately.”

Welcome back Lt. T’mor… we extracted this sample from a cow on the surface. Right now we are trying to figure out it’s purpose, exact composition, origin if possible, and how it may connect to the enhanced wolves… or at least that is what I hope to get out of studying it.”

As Kaden noticed the sample getting adsorbed, he was worried any additional interaction with anything biological would cause the material to activate or cause damage to other biological material. He responded to the computer, =/\=Computer, please go ahead and activate a force field around the item. I do not want anyone getting hurt because of this. =/\= He waited for a response from the computer. He also wanted to see, now that the item was on the ship, if some deeper scans can be performed than what he could on the planet. He wanted to wait for the force field. He then said to the computer =/\=After the force field is up, can you please do a deep analysis of the item? I know I did a scan on the planet with some additional hardware, but we should be able to get a more in-depth scan now its on the ship. Please do the scan and report any additional data past what was already discovered.=/\= He then waited on the computer.

Kyle felt his hand unconsciously grip his phaser, though he couldn’t tell why.

T’Mor didn’t witness exactly what had happened to the biological sample, but she trusted Kaden’s concern was not unwarranted. Cybernetics was not her expertise. Biological sciences, though, were closer to her specialty. So she would assist from that perspective.

“I see you have already introduced a biological sample. Was there any reaction that indicated a possible change to the sample itself?” she asked.

“Want to still touch it, Anders?” Doctor Stacey laughed. The Chief Medical Officer then turned to T’Mor, “The metal object had a minor increase in power flux just before it came into contact with the biomaterial, so I’m thinking it’s programmed to know biological matter”. Gavin turned to the table and frowned. The only alternative could be that the metal object has a living component underneath, which seemed a bit more unlikely.

“Reckon I’ll leave uh… handling the samples to you Doc,” Kyle chuckled in return.

Kane took some time to process what the computer had reported before he looked tot he others. “Emission of Alpha radiation… do you know what it means or if we should be concerned that its emotting radiation even with the shield? He asked as he looked between the CSO and CMO respectively.

Kaden knew the force field would prevent any damage to anyone from the radition. He wanted to tell everyone they were fine so he said, “There is no need to be worried about the alpha radition with the sheild up. Normally alpha radition only effects eyes as dead skin will prevent it from penetrating into the body. ” He then wanted to see if the computer saw anything else. He then said to the computer, “Is there anything else happening when the radition is detected which you do not recognize but still occurs?” There was no way it was as simple as alpha radition but it might be since it was in the cow.

“Alpha particles are also highly ionizing, causing the most damage when a source is directly exposed to organic material,” T’Mor chimed in, “Which could explain what happened to the sample. But you are correct, the shield will be sufficient protection.”

“Hmmm,” Doctor Stacey said, tapping the table in thought. ” I have half a mind to throw a mouse in there with that thing to see what happens,” Gavin stated impatiently. They were going to get much data from the small sample that he originally placed in there. He would need to double the biosample and see what happened on the cellular level. The CMO walked over to the bio container and grabbed a larger canister, then placed it in the adjoining compartment to the object.

The doctor watched as the larger biosample rolled out of the container and within a few inches of the metal object.

While Dr Stacey moved the new biosample to the device, Kaden said to the computer, “Please analyze the reaction of the device as the larger sample gets near it and gets absorbed. I would be curious to know what the power levels are, if they are doubled or if its even higher.” He was curious to see what pattern based on the amount of biomatter was applied, what the power reaction of the device was and if anything else showed up to the computer during the interaction. He waited to hear back from the computer and continued to watch what happened to the biomatter.

Though he wasn’t an expert on biomatter, Kyle still wayched the situation unfolding in front of him with great interest.

T’Mor watched as well. She had her own ideas but wanted to hear out the others first. Being the newest lieutenant-junior grade present, she didn’t feel it necessary to take over from the more experienced officers. Coincidentally though, she did have the same thoughts of looking for cellular changes in the biosample.
