After successfully settling in her accommodations, the first line of business for T’Mor was to check in with her new department head. She was partially intrigued, and partially on guard, learning that he too was Vulcan. She was determined to make a good first impression. In her quarters, she practiced various greetings, of varying levels of formality ranging from traditional to modern. Counting on the fact he might initiate the conversation, she wanted to follow his lead for whatever tone he set. Perhaps she was overthinking it, and it was a waste of energy preparing so much. Before leaving, she made sure her uniform was pristine as possible, and then headed on her way to the CSO’s office. Once arrived, she rang the chime and awaited a response.~€> Ensign T’Mor, Science
Saatynn was in his office, going over the latest sensor scans, both short and long range, when the chime rang. He frowned to himself, confused about the interruption. As he did so, he remembered that he was getting a new officer into his department. “Right. That’s what this is about.” He said to himself, before calling out “Come!”
The door opened, and T’Mor was standing at attention on the other side.
He smiled at T’Mor, gesturing to the chair on the opposite side of the desk. “It’s nice to meet you, Ensign, please, have a seat. Tell me a little bit about yourself. Would you like something to drink?” He asked as he walked over to the replicator.

She paused, like a frozen hologram, except for a few blinks after a while. Her eyes swept what she could see in the corridor either side the entrance. Yes, this was the office of the Chief Science Officer. She entered the office, and sat down in the chair. Almost in complete silence, save for her light footsteps. It took a while, but she finally thought of something to say,
“Yes…” she said, the idea still crystalizing slowly, “Yes, Lieutenant, green tea.”

Saatynn ordered her drink, as well as his own, a simple lime juice. As he placed the drink in front of her, he spoke. “In case you are curious, I do not completely follow the teachings of Surak.”
That fact is obvious. T’Mor thought to herself. Though out loud she offered a polite nod and quite “Thank you, sir.” to the younger Vulcan. Especially considering his age, it was not unheard of that someone might choose to abandon the traditional teachings. She had gone through a similar “phase” in her twenties.
After he let that thought hang in the air for a moment, he changed topics. “Tell me something about yourself, Ensign.”

T’Mor picked up the tea from the desk, and took a moment to straighten her posture. She swirled the drink in the cup while pondering what to say.
“I have been serving as an Ensign for two years in the sciences division.” she said plainly, taking a sip of tea. “My specialty is in botanical sciences, with focus on mutation and genetic engineering.”

“You don’t see many in that specialty much. My own is Xenoanthropology.” Saatynn offered by way of conversation. “Do you have any questions for me, Ensign?”
LtJg Saatynn
T’Mor had several, but none of them where on topic. She wondered if where he studied. If he had gone to the Vulcan Science Academy. If he might have met her sister, who was an assistant professor. Iterating on this thought, her mind was uncontrollably constructing a worst-case scenario where this was all some sort of test.
For about twenty seconds all she could do was stare blankly at Saatynn, trying to keep her breathing steady.
“I transferred to this ship with the impression my specific expertise would be more useful here than where I was previously assigned. Was this assessment accurate?”
