”..I would imagine if there was some sort of Borg incursion Starfleet or the Federation would have put all of known space on alert. Especially given how central we are located in the heart of Federation space, we’re barely a few light years from Sol after all..” One woman in the middle replied.

Gavin nodded in agreement. The Borg would have made a more forceful introduction, and assimilating an animal would have put more strain on the collective’s hivemind. After all, no one would want to constantly hear barking, not even the Borg.

There was a faint chuckle from one of the ladies. “..Makes you wonder if the Borg do assimilate such non-intelligent creatures? Or if they accidently somehow would how that would effect the hive mind? Maybe something to ask the egg heads back at R&R..” She said.

”..As for outsiders? No none, the last registered vessel to enter orbit was a Federation trade vessel the SS Bolvare. They stopped in to pick up their monthly mineral deposits we mine in small quantities for trade. It’s a small personal cargo vessel that runs from here to Sol, Vulcan, Andoria, Tellar systems, and Ceti Alpha six station. Their next expected arrival time was not for another four or so weeks..” The first man in tan shirts and pants said.

Stiles then spoke, “..Councilors, while I do not wish to alarm anyone. Given our.....choices of life, it is possible someone has snuck in on other areas of the planet without our notice or those of the local Federation patrols..” He said.

”..That is a possibility, Councilor Stiles, but to what end? What goal would corrupting our animal life or injuring or destroying our bovine population or those here in the colony serve?..” Another man said.

”..Who can yet say, we do not have enough information at this juncture. Hopefully the Ark Angel’s crew can shed light on the matter shortly..” Stiles said, while the group waited for the update from the Angel in orbit.

“Are there any valuable natural resources on the planet?” Gavin asked, trying to formulate a motive. Obviously, they didn’t have many clues to go off of on the ground, so he’d imagine the AA would probably be scanning the area for anyone else.

”..We have high deposits of gold, copper, iron, and titanium ores across the planet. We ourselves do not mine much beyond the iron reserves. But often we get mining concerns from private contractors request permission to mine the others in smaller to moderate quantities for a time. The last such was about a year or so ago by the Argos mining corporation. They setup a mine for titanium and gold harvesting about 200 miles south of the main colony here in the higher mountain ranges there. They stopped though once they got what they wanted from the mine six months later. It’s been closed up safely since and no one else has been present..” someone said.

“And this is the first known attack?” Gavin asked, trying to establish a timeframe for when the wolves could have been transformed. “I think we should start with a headcount to catch our bearings, and if there is anyone missing they’ve either been attacked or could be our culprit.” The CMO put aside his piracy theory for the inside job theory.
