Kyle added as much flair as he could to the performance. He gave a huff of relief when the song finished and bowed elequently, “Hang around with us long enough lass, you’ll be crooning better than I can. Sam, would you care to take the next number?”
“Happy to old chap, just happy to,” Sammy replied, playing up to Kyle’s British accent a little more, “This one goes out to a very special lady in the audience tonight,” Another track started, as if Sammy had control over the computer that was initiated by thought, “Care for a dance lass?” He asked Marlaa, extending a hand.

(The Song Sam Sings Alone)
-Kyle Anders-
Marlaa applauded as they finished and shook her head. “I’ll be passing on that, thank you. I’m not a singer.”
When he held a hand in offer to the dance, she paused a moment. She wasn’t much of a dancer, either. But he had gone through so much trouble.
She took his hand and let him pull them together. As he held her there in the arboretum, her analytical mind took over. How far was too far with a peer? There was no conflict of supervisor/subordinate. They were both of equal rank in that respect. And there was no one in her life that stood in her way, though she didn’t know that of him, for sure. Blinking and coming back to the moment, she smiled. She hadn’t realized it had slipped till that moment.
“This is an intriguing piece. I don’t usually listen to jazz for the soft, melodic pieces.”
Marlaa
CNSKyle chuckled, “Lass, I’m a theatre performer, anything that sounds like a show-tune is my cup o’tea. You’re quite nimble on your feet, by the way, have you ever danced before?”
-Kyle Anders-
Mar nodded as his words brought her from her thoughts. “My father worked for Special Ops. Because my mother wanted nothing to do with it, I often joined my father at functions as his companion. Because I had a knack for getting people to talk, his bosses were happy to oblige.” She smiled at him and while it barely lasted a flash of a second, the look was one of maliciousness and pleasure. “I just never told them everything. But I did my father.”
Her contented smile settled immediately once more. “So where did you learn to dance? I don’t imagine many men accompanying their mothers to Fleet functions unless dragged.
Mar
CNS“I’ve always had a knack for performance lass, since I was small. But dancing with Admirals did certainly come in handy.” He winked.
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
Mar tried to mentally scan her brain for what she remembered of Anders’ file. When nothing was immediately forthcoming, she spoke up in her curiosity. “Admirals? When did you dance with Admirals?” The curiosity was a genuine one and the inflection, by no means, hinted that she didn’t believe him.

CNS“My parents served on the Nightengale during the Dominion War, when Captain Sisko and the crew of Deep Space Nine won back the station, Sisko being the man he was, we had a bit of a carnival to celebrate, let’s just say I had to learn quickly. A few months later,” Anders paused, loosening the hold on Marlaa, “They were killed in a Jem’Hadar skirmish on the Klingon border, but not before being tortured for information.”
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
As Kyle widened the space between them a moment, Mar’s right hand slid from his shoulder, down to grip his bicep in a comforting gesture. “I am sorry, Kyle. My own parents died on Romulus. I know how hard such things can be.” She tilted her head slightly and smiled, “As a friend, I am here if you ever want to talk about it. No need to come to me as the Counselor in ‘all’ things.” She nodded to him and smiled a bit brighter. “And I have enjoyed tonight, immensely, but we should retire. While the night continues as a party elsewhere, I am sure, I have appointments in the morning I cannot miss.”
She glanced towards their holo entertainer, “I have enjoyed this very much. And I hope we can do it again, soon.” Turning back to Kyle, she nodded. “And I mean that.”
She wasn’t sure where it was going, but she was enjoying the rapport and hoped it wasn’t moving faster than she thought it should.

CNSSam grinned, “Anytime baby, you know where I am.” Then with a quick wink to Kyle, he vanished, leaving enough room for Kyle to stretch out to catch the falling mobile emitter, “He always self deactivates in the most awkward of places.” The young Security chief chuckled and glanced at his date, “I have throughly enjoyed this evening to, though it doesn’t have to end right this second.” He extended an open hand, “At least let me carry on the old tradition of walking you home.”
-Lt. Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
Mar laughed. “As you wish,” she said and inclined her head to him.
She helped him pack up what little they had and took the small basket into her own hands. “You carried it here. Seems fair I should carry it back.” Then she added, “By the way, I never asked how you ended up on Angel. Did you request deep space, far from home? Or was it just you next set of orders?” The curiosity was plain on her face. She wasn’t passing judgement, one way or the other. Merely curious.
Mar
CNS“I served as a junior Security Officer on the Ogawa for about 3 months coming out of the Academy, but Security on a medical ship was somewhere I knew would limit my ability to explore space, being my true passion of course. As soon as I recieved a communication from an old Academy fruend saying the position on the Angel had come up, I knew it was an oppourtunity I couldn’t pass up. So here I am, and all the more glad of it.”
-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-
Mar smiled. “Well I’m glad you chose deep space. Not just because of tonight, either.” She laughed lightly as they entered the corridors once more. “I mean, since you came willingly, hopefully,” she winked, teasing, “you won’t be mad it’s constantly dark outside and often boring. Too many are forced because of orders and it’s a nightmare when they aren’t happy. There’s no where to send them.”
There was a small ache to her voice as she remembered those who ended up discharged, or quit, because they weren’t prepared.

“Counsellor,” Kyle said with a grin, “Now you’re just flirting. “But I just hope I’ve made a good impression with the crew. You never know how senior officers will react to the new lad coming in and changing things up.”
