Again stellar scans of the region by the Volograd again during this period showed nothing really amiss. The only stand out oddities were the rapid evolution of the Forseth, and the odd ‘echo’ pattern of radio traffic for light years around.

Katie stood near the right hand side of the display. “It strikes me that there are two fundamental solutions to this problem. First, there is the possibility that they developed the technology themselves and the only answer I see to that one is that their brains and metabolisms are so fast they make us look like we’re trying to solve differential calculus problems with an abacus. Second, they got the technology from someone else. That leads to the problem of whether they got it through physical contact with another race… presumably not a Federation species since that would be a prime directive violation… or they got it through a non-physical means,” Katie said with a frown. “Perhaps they are extremely psychic and got it through long distance mind-reading though I tend to discount that possibility.”

The telepathic theory was a good one but unlikely since the scans done by the Volograd showed no signs of psychic or telepathic abilities, or a sense of hive minds.

Kaden looked around and commented to Lt Hobbes, “Do we have any reports of what it looks like they have currently? I know the signals have disappeared based on the last review by the USS Volgograd. Have there been any additional reports since then?” Kaden asked. Kaden was very curious on what was actually going on with the current setup since the signals seem to no longer be showing up. Did something happen to the civilization or have they moved beyond this which is why its not showing up anymore. He then waited for a response.

“You have the right mindset for this Ensign Buchanan, a curious one. To answer your questions, I dont think there is any additional data. I am sure the Commodore provided all the information she was able to obtain from the Volograd. We are going to have to do some digging and make sense of what we have. The answer is in there somewhere.”
She thought for a brief moment the said, “The Volograd’s survey probe missed any sign of intelligence life on the third planet or of any sign of civilization. Will you review the scans from this and see if you can determine how this could have happened? The Volograd is a Moscow class Surveyor, it may help if we can review the specs of the ship to rule out malfunction.”

Ensign Baptiste went through the data that they had, Interesting, a species that appears to be developing on an evolutionary scale faster than they should be. he thought. He dug further into the data, I wonder if anyone has looked into these tiny space faring organisms from the nebulas, I know they are some distance away, but how fast can they travel? Can they survive in an atmosphere? Most importantly, can they infect and cause an evolutionary change in another species; similar to the Trill? he thought as he began making notes. Also, one must consider the way the unique binary star system, could the radiation from these two stars effect the evolution of biological lifeforms. he pulled up some data on reptilian lifeforms There, some reptilian species are more susceptible to radiation and mutate under it. Could this be the case? If so, how are they developing so fast on an industrial scale? he again pulled up some data, this time on known space faring Reptilian species. he wanted to see if there was any correlation in development. He was also considering if the ‘echoing’ radio traffic had anything to do with their mental development.

Sifeda turned to Hobbs then said. “There was significant radio traffic in that part of the solar system. Is there anyway to determine the frequency and what was being transmitted over these waves? I feel like that could be part of the puzzle.”

Demil slipped into the room, carrying a PADD. “I remembered reading about Voyager encountering a similar situation, and pulled the ship’s logs. If nothing else, it could help set precedent for what to do if and when they achieve spaceflight.” He set the PADD on an empty console and took a seat next to it. “It might also be some sort of dimensional anomaly, or an effect of the unique binary system.”

“Great thinking Ensign Lis.” She said as she tried to recount that particular Voyager mission. “It is definitely worth exploring, since from what we are aware of they could be developing space flight capabilities at any moment now. I think we could be on another right track if we consider their binary star system. Combining your two theories together, do you think the binary system could cause a dimensional anomaly, Ensign?”

“Maybe,” Demil said. “It’s quite likely the two are linked. What if ,” he stood up and started pacing, “what if the second star is a ‘refugee’, in a way, from a second dimension, a part of that reality that crossed over to ours. It could be maintaining an anomaly because it’s foreign to our universe. If that other dimension is chronally shifted, it might provide an explanation for rapid development. That might also explain the unusually high level of radio traffic, if we’re hearing echoes from that dimension.” He stopped at the edge of the room and spun back to face the group, eyes bright.

“My apologies for being late,” Doctor Stacey said as he entered the Science Lab while reading a PaDD, assumingly catching up on the data packet, “I had an unexpected patient stop by.”

The Chief Medical Officer spotted Doctor Baptiste and made his way over. “Did you spot anything about their appearance?” Still hoping to be able to get a way for the crew to have a possible avenue of further study. Gavin did leave a mental note that he might have to table that idea if the species became space fareing.

“Sir they appear to be in the category of Reptilian species. I have pulled all known space faring species and have the computer running any similar biological developments.” replied Ensign Baptiste. “I would also like to request a probe be sent to the nearby nebulas to investigate the space faring organisms there. I think we need to see if perhaps they are capable of making their way to this system, and possibly being symbiotic with this species.” he said. “Then there are the possibilities that this species is being effected by the uniqueness of this binary system and the way the stars radiation effects them, as well as these ‘echo’ radio frequencies.” Ensign Johnathan stated. “All, some or even none of these factors may be a contributing factor. The rest of the team have come up with some interesting theories.”

V’alura typed away on her console’s haptic keyboard while listening to all the wonderful and creative theories being suggested around her. Today she seemed more passive than assertive as she catalogued everyone’s thoughts and ideas into useful notes. “We’ve gathered quite a few theories.” She said, “The question I would like to pose now is what will we do when we arrive? What should be our number one focus? It seems to me we have two avenues to explore. The Forseth, and the binary system they live upon.” How will they prove or disprove their theories? Given the extreme speed of the Foresth evolution, V’alura had the strangest feeling that a count down timer has been placed upon the Ark Angel and her mission.

Katie covered her mouth with her right hand for a moment. “The loss of signal is probably a sign of technological evolution. They’ve evolved beyond conventional radio and perhaps beyond our communications technology. Assuming we have samples of their earlier transmissions, a linguistic analysis could eliminate the “hyper-fast thinkers” hypothesis. Unfortunately that sort of analysis is outside my personal skill set,” she said. She paused for a moment. “And Volograd’s lack of detection of psychic or telepathy may just mean they have a form that we haven’t encountered before.”

OOC: Someone is going to need to clarify for me what is so unusual about a binary planet system with planets circling each of the stars. We have such systems in our immediate galactic neighborhood. The Alpha Centauri system has three stars which orbit around a central “center of gravity” located near the largest of the three. Each of those stars is believed to have planets.
