Don’t be so dramatic. V’alura told herself, completely self aware that such a statement was rich coming from her. She made a whole career out of drama and was, in general, a very dramatic person. One would think a trip to sickbay would be simple, and decidedly not dramatic. For the past few weeks V’alura couldn’t seem to recover from what she had dubbed a stress cold spiced with the occasional dizzy spell. Nothing she couldn’t power through or handle, but the duration of her symptoms were starting to worry her. Perhaps it was time to visit sickbay for a check up. . . but V’alura put it off. There was work to be done and she’ll take it easy.Expect it didn’t get better. She became more tired and that wasn’t the only change. V’alura took a deep breath and stepped into sickbay. She had her calm, relaxed mask in place. To everyone in sickbay she was calm and perfectly composed. On the inside was another story. V’alura was greeted by a nurse, who directed her to a near-by biobed. “A doctor will be with you shortly,” She said before leaving V’alura to tend to the other sickbay patients.
V’alura sat with her back straight and her hands in her lap. There’s nothing to worry about. A nice doctor will come along, scan her, go ‘well there’s the problem!’ and fix her up so she can go on her merry away. Right?
V’alura Belmont, A Concerned Patient
Gavin was going down the bay staring at the PaDD, which showed each patient’s status. His mission was to increase efficiency and ensure a high through rate for the Doctors’ services. Lt Jg Stacey noticed that the CSO was listed as a pending patient on his list and decided to take care of her himself.
“What can I do for you, Lieutenant?” The CMO asked, stopping a foot or two in front of the science chief.
Dr. Stacey
MedicalV’alura smiled at Dr. Stacey’s approach, “I would love it if you could wave your tricorder over me and announce I have a cold and to take it easy for a few days,” She said with a laugh. It was a joking comment meant to be humorus and to break the ice. Mostly for her own nerves that were perfectly masked by the calm she showed the world. “And now, in all seriousness. I’ve been feeling out of sorts for a few weeks now. It started out like a cold. I was tired all the time, and there were the odd dizzy spells. . .”
She frowned, concern finally forcing cracks into her professional mask. “I thought I was just overworked and that once I cut back on my work it would go away.” But it didn’t. Even after cutting back on her work and hobbies nothing changed. “I’m more tired than ever. It feels like I have just enough energy to get through my shift.
“But that’s not what’s really worrying me. Lately I’ve started experiencing mild shortness of breath. There’s no predicting it. It just comes then goes, especially if I’ve been exercising.”
V’alura Belmont, CSO Turned Patient
Gavin listened intensely while Belmont explained her symptoms. The CMO found that he was able to create a long list of illnesses or diseases based on the symptoms he just heard. The Doctor, lost in his thoughts for the moment, opened up his tricorder and began scanning the woman.
“Are you afraid of Sickbay?” Gavin asked, in a somewhat rhetorical fashion. “If a turbolift malfunctions, you call an Engineer. If someone is trying to board the ship, you call security. When you need to identify a plant life, you call sciences. If you feel ill, you call a doctor.” Lt JG Stacey said trying to make a point.
“There are illnesses out there that can be cured if caught early, ya know?” Gavin continued as he rotated the scanning wand around V’alura’s head.
Stacey (CMO)
Johnathan had followed the CMO into the main portion of the sickbay as requested. He stood back as he watched Lieutenant Stacey examine a patient, observing and noting his techniques with the patient. As he observed he paid attention to the symptoms the patient was describing.

“Surely you know how us scientists are by now, don’t you doctor?” V’alura joked. It was also the truth. V’alura often became so caught up in her work that all else slipped her mind and she did not intend to have gone so long before receiving care. Especially when she thought she was simply overworked. “But yes, I understand what you trying to say.” Then, after a pause she quietly asked, “You don’t really think this could be something serious, do you?”
Gavin’s scans revealed the following information: a minor lung infection, such as from a cold with evidence of other recent lung infections. There is also evidence of nonspecific inflammation but none that is enough to be concerning.
V’alura Belmont, CSO/Patient
Ensign looked over Doctor Gavin’s shoulder at the medical tricorder readings. “May I ask a question sir?” he inquired. He was curious to see if Lieutenant Belmont had been around a lot of moisture as of late. If so, he immediately was concerned she had acquired a case of Vulcan Pneumonia.
