After leaving the Captain, she reviewed the PaDD in her hands to determine the first Department Head she was going to meet with. The name at the top of the list was…. Lieutenant Junior Grade Gavin Stacey, Chief Medical Officer on the Ark Angel. He was Human, young, majored in biology, and minored in xenobiology. She pulled up the ship specifications and saw there was a conference room on Deck 1. She headed that way as she tapped her comm badge =^=Commander Itri to Lieutenant Stacey. Will you please meet me in the Conference Room on Deck 1? =^=Itri, XO
=^= On my way, Commander. =^= Gavin simply said on his end of the call. Doctor Stacey was still not use to being a Lieutenant JG so fresh out of the academy, let alone the Chief Medical Officer on one of Starfleet’s Flagships. The CMO took one look around his Sickbay to ensure everything was in order, before he disappeared into the corridor. He wasn’t sure what the new XO would want with him, especially in the conference room on the Bridge. That room was usually left for senior staff meetings, or for major briefings with other departments. “Deck 1, Bridge.” He said once he entered the turbolift.
Gavin paused for a moment once he left the lift. He didn’t see any sign of a senior officer, and it appeared that a tactical NLt had the watch. Doctor Stacey gave him a nod as he proceeded towards the conference room.
“Commander?” Gavin asked as he entered the conference room.
Stacey
Medical“Lieutenant, please come in,” she made an attempt to appear welcoming. “Please have a seat. Do not be alarmed or on edge by my summoning of you. I wanted to meet all the department heads I will be working with on the ship face to face.”
She briefly looked at his profile. “I see you are not long out of the Academy. You know one thing about me is that I tend to remember only the interesting things about people, not the common stuff. So I would like to start our meeting by you telling me one interesting thing about yourself. Also, you must be an amazing physician to be CMO on this ship right out of the Academy and you are also incredibly young. Please don’t misinterpret my questions regarding this as a sign that I don’t think you are competent. I know the Commodore is very specific about who she recruits. I am simply asking because I would like to know what makes you amazing in her eyes. Tell me about some of the work you have done.”XO, Itri
Gavin had remained quiet while giving the occasional smile for niceties. Itri seemed to be the polar opposite of his last XO, though he wouldn’t know for sure since the Doc hadn’t had a full conversation with the man before his departure. Lt Jg Stacey knew he was merely in the right place at the right time for him to receive his promotion to CMO, since normally a full Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander would be assigned the slot on a ship of this magnitude. However, part of that thinking could be self-doubt. One thing was for sure, Gavin Stacey hated compliments, and would be running from the XO if he didn’t care what she thought of him.
“I haven’t accomplished much, since on my first assignment we were sucked into a blob.. then chased a blob around the ship.” Doctor Stacey replied, hoping to keep the conversation short. After all, he was a Doctor, not a reporter.
Dr. Stacey
CMOSifeda regarded the man with equivocal expression. His ambiguity made her unsure of how her future interactions with him would unfold. Most people would have jumped at the opportunity to exploit their skills, accomplishments, and their service history in the Academy. However, Lieutenant Stacey was vague and he had not answered her question or all together avoided it. “Yes. I heard all about the blob creature from our very talkative Chef Science Officer. It’s a shame we were not able to retain it to study further. You stated that you have not accomplished much. I doubt that because you would be here if you hadn’t, but in any case I am sure you have a vision for the medical department and the medical crew. Care to share what that vision?
Itri, XO
OOC: Keeping this on the board, so I can reply tomorrow :)
-Ray
OOC: You are all good Ray. How you like my new character. Differentfrom my character on the Wolverine…huh?
Mika
OOC: Love it!
IC: Gavin thought for a moment before answering. His main goal was not to kill anyone, but accidents do happen so promises couldn’t be made. “Increase efficiency and throughput would be the main goal for my team.” Doctor Stacey said after a short pause. The CMO was sure his answer would sit well with the new XO, everyone loves to see that resources were well spent, and increasing efficiency was one way to do that.
“I think you vision will fit in nicely with my goals for the ship.”
“What are your goals for the ship, Commander?” Gavin asked, as to turn the question around.
Dr. Stacey
MedicalShe smiled and said, “I am glad you asked. My goals for the ship is to ensure that the crew interact and communicate with each other regularly and efficiently. For instance, did you know that Lieutenant Belmont is working on a medical diagnosis A.I. that can predict the patterns of disease and infection progression in patients?
She has been contact and is working with Dr. Segal, who is stationed on the USS Ogawa, about this innovation. However I think you should be apart of this research as you are the CMO.”Gavin raised his brow when the XO mentioned that the CSO was working on a medical A.I. The doctor wasn’t doubting Belmont’s capabilities but thought that type of task could be left to an Engineer or Operations officer with help from medical. “That sounds like an excellent idea, ma’am.” Ltjg Stacey replied, ensuring a slight smile appeared on his face to mask his doubt. Though, helping with this project could show up his father, since he never had a chance to create an A.I.
She shrugged then said, “I think we can get accustomed to our jobs and we tend to stay in our own bubbles to the point we don’t really get to interact and know our crew mates. I hope to change that. So with that in mind, will you be attending the post mission gathering?”
“It’s a possibility that I’ll show up,” Gavin stated. He wasn’t too fond of large gatherings or shining a spotlight on himself, but he didn’t want to say he wasn’t going. “I have to call my parents and update them on my wellbeing beforehand, though.”
Itri, XO
CMO
“Understandable.” She thought it was admirable he was still in contact with his parents as she had long lost contact with her own after she left her home planet. ” I will reach out to Lieutenant Belmont and let her know you will be joining her on her AI project.”
She stood, an indication their meeting was over. “So if you don’t have any other questions for me that concludes our meeting. I am sure you are eager to get back to work as I am to go to my quarters and settle in.”Itri, XO
“Very much so, Commander,” Gavin said in agreeance. Doctor Stacey stood up, pushed in his chair, and then turned back to the XO. “I hope you find what you’re looking for on the Ark Angel.” The CMO stated, waiting to be dismissed.
Stacey (CMO)
She was taken aback a bit by his comment, What did he think she was looking for? She stood and said, “Thank you, doctor. I am sure I will if I haven’t already found it. I have enjoyed speaking with you.”
She noticed he was waiting to be dismissed. “Please feel free to return to duty.”
