After typing notes in her PaDD, she pulled up the next name on her list Lieutenant Kyle Anders, Chief of Security. He was Human, young but from a family with a long service career in Starfleet. Also the fact was not lost on her that young Kyle lost his father while he was trying to rescue hostages from a group of Jem’Hadar. Being half-human, these types of stories touched her and made her very empathic. She laid the PaDD on the table and tried to clear her mind. She tried not to imagine what Anders’ father’s last moments were like as he laid down his life for those hostages. Sifeda tapped her comm badge and said, =^=“Commander Itri to Lieutenant Anders. Will you please meet me in the conference room on Deck 1?=^=

Kyle had spent most of the morning on his early patrol, jumping from deck to deck checking in with anyone who might have needed a hand. He was taking a break in the mess hall with a cup of coffee when he heard the chirp of his combadge, followed by Commander Itri’s instruction to join her on the bridge, “=^= On my way ma’am. =^=” Giving a nod to the barkeep, Kyle strode out of 17 Forward and began his route to the Bridge.

In the time she had been on board the Arkangel, Kyle had not really had chance to look over the new XO’s service record, so he was looking forward to the chance to have a chat, whether informal or formal. When he reached the bridge, he double checked his uniform in a wall panel’s reflection and crossed into the conference room, “You wanted to see me Commander?”

-Lieutenant Kyle Anders: Chief of Security-

Sifeda looked up at the young man and her hand motioned for him to have a seat, “Lieutenant, please have a seat. Yes, I am meeting with all of the department heads. I intend to be a very involved XO and to do that I have to know who I am going to be working with.” She put both hands on the table, stared at the security officer, then said “Lieutenant, do you know how to fight with a Bat’leth?”

“I took a series of hand to hand combat classes at the Academy, but it’s been a while since I last had a chance to brush up, why, do you feel like sparring?” Kyle was certainly intrigued at the prospect of getting to know her XO, but a trial by combat was an interesting way to start.

Sifeda used her left hand to bring her long sleek black hair over her left shoulder as she gave the man a subtle smile paired with a challenging gaze. “I never pass up an opportunity to practice battle and I have a real bat’leth. It was given to me as a wedding present by my husband’s mother.”
The prospect of having a sparring partner on the ship fascinated her. “Just name the time and place I am there. Now I have another question for you. What do think are the weaknesses of the Ark Angel and how do you intend to mitigate those to ensure the safety of everyone on this ship?” There was really no right or wrong answer, she was just curious as to how he would answer the question.

“Holodeck Two, 1800 hours? Hope you’re ready to lose though,” he winked, “In terms of your other question, I think the entire ship, all departments, would benefit from a refresh on basic combat skills, something I’d be happy to take the lead on if you’d like?”

She held in her laugh when he said I hope you are ready to lose. by pressing her lips together in a smirk. Then she made a fist and pointed it in his direction, “I’ll be there and I will make sure Doctor Stacey and his staff are there to tend to you after battle. You should probably come up with a safe word just in case those close call winds coming off my bat’leth becomes too much for you to handle.”
The idea of refreshing the crew on basic combative skills was excellent. After all the crew needed to be prepared for anything. “I think that is an excellent idea. I will run it by the Commodore and get her thoughts first and of course you will be taking the lead. Now how about weapons training? Where do you think the crew is in this area?”

‘My team in particular are handy in this field,’ Anders replied with the grin of a proud father, ‘I would think that the crew may benefit from taking part in Holodeck combat sims in order to shape up both their weapons and team building skills.’

Then, that will be your next assignment. I would love to be involved in the training preparations. How about we meet to discuss after I have fully settled on board? As you know we could be sent out on mission any time. The soon we start the better.”

“I couldn’t agree more, and may I say Commander, that it’s been a pleasure to meet you.”

“You as well Lieutenant. We will speak soon.” She stood up to escort him to the door.
