[snip]Once the Synthesis’s CO and the others from the Ark Angel had left, Miz’uki and Hobbes were left with the other four engineers lead by the ship’s CE Lt Austin the human male looked over both of the newcomers to his engine room. “..So you folks want to go poking around my engines and systems huh? Personally I don’t like it but orders are orders I guess. So where you two want to start?..” he inquired.
“Lt. Miz’uki. If you don’t have a particular task in mind for me, I think I’ll start by checking the coolant system. Utility systems always seem to be the ones which everyone assumes they are functioning correctly,” Katie said.

Austin looked to Hobbes, “..The coolant system? Well an odd place I guess to start any kind of scans, but I guess it would help me guide you if I knew what you were looking for?” he inquired between Hobbes and Miz’uki.

Katie smiled at Austin as she adjusted her tricorder.
“If I knew exactly what I was looking for I would be happy to tell you,” she said. “As for the coolant system, it is the very simplicity of it and how thoroughly we understand it, that makes it attractive as a place to start. A normal coolant system on a well maintained ship will be straight-line and solid. Any anomalies will stand out.”
”..Fair enough I guess..” Austin replied simply.
She stopped and adjusted her tricorder again. That number couldn’t be right.
“Like this one,” she said holding the tricorder so that Austin could see the readout. “What exactly did you experience here?”
Peering over her shoulder Austin eyed the tricorder scans, he seemed about to comment on the tricorder’s advanced nature itself, but then held off. “..Not sure, seems like there is a pressure drop in the coolant line to one of the EPS lines for the engine room itself. It is just down the hall here, why don’t you go check it out why I run a system’s check?” he suggested.

OOC: Going to assume you go down the hall to move this along…
As Hobbes got down the hall after leaving the engine room proper, she soon found the corridor access point for the indicated coolant line out of order. Kneeling and prying off the panel on the wall her scans showed the coolant line and feeding system itself was in working order. What set the tricorder off though was on the exterior of the piping. A very thin film of some kind of slimy residue was on a small 3 inch section of the pipe. It was of a temperature just above boiling point for water, this had caused the slight variance in coolant temperatures to rise just a degree or two overall. The temperature rise would resolve itself soon enough and was not a concerning point in and of itself, the weird thin slime residue though would certainly stand out as an anomaly.
As she would happen to go to refine her tricorder scans though and look back once more to the source of the slime, she wound find that somehow the slime residue was now simply gone! One second it was there on her scans and sight, then the next it was poof! Gone! No residue of the slime was in evidence or of how it had vanished. Certainly more of a mystery to delve into though! But what to do next was up to her....

OOC: I don’t mind people moving my character around as long as they do so in a manner consistent with her character and in a respectful manner. Which you have done admirably.
Katie blinked twice as she stared at the 3” pipe waiting for the slime to not reappear, which it didn’t. Had she actually seen something unusual? She dialed the playback function on her tricorder back one minute and watched the readings carefully. Clearly something had been there and now there was nothing. She dialed the tricorder back again and reduced the playback speed by a factor of ten. Something was there. It hadn’t moved and it didn’t shrink at least not at this playback speed. In a tenth of a second it vanished. After running a diagnostic on the tricorder, which showed the tricorder to be functioning correctly, she scanned the other piping, conduits and general surfaces in the area, none of which showed any evidence of the slime having ever been there.
“So. The only evidence that can be analyzed is this recording of tricorder scans,” Katie said with a frown. She turned and headed back to where Miz’uki was working. This was going to need some more heavy duty analytic equipment and probably more experience than she had to determine what was happening.”
