“It seems, based on the reports of potential space-borne lifeforms and the fact that multiple times, only the living things disappeared, that there could be aliens in that space that don’t want company. They could be more primitive, and therefore only register living creatures, not technology. Perhaps they are accidentally damaging some technology. Those energy bursts could be an attempt to communicate…” Demil half-responded, half-thought aloud.

Ens. Lis

“It could be any of those things or the disappearances could be the result of direct and purposeful attacks. Look at this. . .” V’alura said, and brought up two ships on the holodisplay: The Synthesis and the Poll. “Both of these ships were hit by something. That something interfered with the ships ability to function. Yet all probes sent into the Warren were never hit by any strange forces or knocked off-line or anything. If they couldn’t sense technology then why disable the ships? There’s something strange going on in that section of space. What is causing it, be it natural or the result of life, I cannot say. . .

“However, it’s our job to be prepared for it.” V’alura made a third ship appear on the holo-display: the Ark Angel. “How do we protect the Ark Angel?”

“Well, first, I believe we should operate on the assumption that the energy bursts were intentionally directed at those ships, perhaps as communication. I think the linguists should see if we can decipher any linguistic structure encoded in any sensor logs we have of the bursts. We should also plan to nullify the pulses as much as possible, maybe by trying to scramble them. It would also be wise to maintain shields up while we are in the Warren until we learn more.”

Unfortunately they did not have any scans of these pulses/bursts. The best for now it seems they could hope for was keeping prepared to react to any unexpected fallout that may come their way.

V’alura inclined her head, “I agree that we should assume these bursts are intentional. We can have a linguist team ready but we shouldn’t anticipate that that is the purpose of those bursts,” She said, “It’s too soon to know anything for certain. Not to mention it looks like we don’t have any scans of these pulses. Which means we have no idea what to anticipate or what to nullify. . . Maintaining shields is a good idea, let’s get to figuring out how long we can keep shields up and the impact that’ll have on ship power.

She pressed a few buttons, and several areas upon the Ark Angel’s model lit up, “These pulses seem to be energy based, perhaps we could build energy banks at key points within the Ark Angel. These banks could absorb at least a portion of the energy and limit the damage to key systems. We could place them at the bridge, the primary and secondary computer core, the warp core, and the medbay.”

“I would also suggest one here, so we have somewhere to figure out what’s going on if we’re hit and will still be able to do our jobs. One at the deflector too would be a good idea…” Demil mused. “If we disable the holodecks, that would give us more power for the shields.”

Ens. Lis

the door to the labs opened and in walked a very agitated Caitain Engineer “Lieutenant Belmont I wanted to share the results of my own theories and investigations from the Engineering side of things as to what might have happened see if we have any notes to compare with each other” she purred

“I got access to the Chief Engineers logs of the Synthesis and he reported that they passed by a Romulan-Earth war battlefield and only after having passed by and scanned it did they report a power fluctuation in their computer core I asked the captain if she might have any insight into Romulan Computer viruses however according to her such ships with that capability would not have been uncloaked on that battlefield so that was a no go as for how they got to our time I have run simulations with various temporal anomalies and none of the reported problems showed up in any of the ones they survived the trip through all the others they did not survive and as such it did not really matter if the computer was glitching or not” she reported handing her notes to the Chief Science officer

Miz’uki

V’alura accepted the Chief Engineer’s notes, and listened while she speed read through them. Sometimes being half-Vulcan had its perks, like a marvelous ability to multi-task. When Miz’uki finished her verbal report, V’alura nodded once then said, “Temporal anomalies. Yes, that is a possibility. Strange energy bursts and a distress signal from ship 133 years ago. . . it all aligns. Here, let me summarize what we’ve found.”

With a few presses of her fingers on the holographic controls, V’alura added their notes beside the holo display of the Ark Angel. “It seems every unmanned probe sent into the Warrens was able to make scans and gather data without encountering any strange energy bursts. The same could not be said for every manned ship that made the same journey. Multiple ships from multiple species have vanished without a trace, in some instances the ship remained but the crew was gone. One colony ship made it into the system, but a ship later sent to check up on them found the infrastructure there and intact, but the colonists gone.

“I believe that these energy bursts are purposeful and targeted towards lifeforms aboard ships. Unfortunately we can’t say what these energy bursts are or for what purpose. The most recent probe scans suggest possible life in the system but we can’t confirm that.” She adjusted the holodisplay to bring the model of the Ark Angel to the forefront. “We had the idea of installing energy banks at key points across the ship to absorb the energy from these bursts and prevent or mitigate system damage.”

Demil struggled to contain himself, ultimately failing. He told Miz’uki, “I believe the bursts to potentially be a form of linguistic communication, though we can’t prove it yet.” He then realized he effectively interrupted a conversation between 2 superior officers - 2 department heads, and retreated into a corner, mumbling apologies.

“Interesting” she purred “got specs ready me and my team will get right on them,” she said giving a soft smile to the Ensign letting him know it was ok that he spoke up

Miz’uki

Oh dear. V’alura held up one finger to Miz’uki before following after her embarrassed En. She came up beside Demil and squeezed his shoulder briefly. “Hey, there. You know, you are absolutely allowed to speak.” Flashing him an encouraging smile she continued, “I didn’t forget about your theory and we are going explore that possibility. So don’t be afraid to speak up and contribute ideas. Now,” V’alura turned, and motioned for Demil to follow her, “Let’s go work with engineering to figure our our next step.”

Demil nodded and followed after V’alura. He seemed lost in his thoughts but paid enough attention to be able to input an opinion on things.

“Dont worry Kid you’ll get used to thing” Miz’uki purred kindly turning for the door so they could go work on the idea together

Miz’uki

Given they had limited information to theorize on with how to defend the ship they best they could do now is report in to the Captain and get prepared as they could be for their arrival to the Barrens.

Looking over everything they learned and thinking upon everything they didn’t know. . . “Let’s take what we have to the Captain and see what she thinks. Miz’uki, you think you could spare a few engineers to help us out in science? En. Lis, I’ll have you develop and lead a small team dedicated to scanning any energy pulses and study the results.” No one has ever recorded a scan of those pulses yet, but perhaps now that they know what to expect perhaps they could be the first to capture some kind of information.

We looked into all the available data we and he’s what we’ve found. . .=^= V’alura went into a summary of their findings similar to report she gave Miz’uki just a little earlier with the inclusion of Miz’uki’s theory of temporal anomalies.
