Upon entering the exobiology lab, V’alura turned towards Ensign Lis, “Show me the contaminated container if you would.” She looked about the lab, seemingly deep in thought. Whoever did this is in serious trouble. But who would do this? And why? What was their endgame. . .

Demil grabbed the container and handed it to her. As he had said, it was very deliberately mixed. It seemed that whoever had done it had struck again while Demil was away, as the genes were now actually put together instead of merely in the same container, looking like the DNA of a tellarite-betazoid child.

V’alura accepted the container, very careful in her handling of it. Though she doubted whoever did this would be so dumb as to leave finger prints but who knows. She brought it to the nearest microscope and examined the contents under intense magnification. “Hmm. . .” She wasn’t an expert on this but if this looked like what she thought it did. . . “Demil, tell me what you make of this.” She wanted him to confirm her thoughts.

What is the endgame here. And when did this happen? V’alura glanced around the lab, empty at this time, and wondered if it was one of the geneticists or a rouge scientist. “I think we should look at the names of everyone who has logged into the lab.” She accessed the nearest console and had the list sent to her personal PaDD and began to search the list for any out of place names or unusual activity.

“It almost looks like someone’s experimenting to create a telepathic super soldier., or at least an augment of some kind…” Demil said, worry on his face. “Whoever did this has to be very good. Look at the first and third chromosomes. The genes are optimized for physical and mental ability in a way you’d never find naturally.” He did the same as V’alura, looking specifically at the period he was gone.

Goodness! A telepathic super soldier. And someone on this ship was experimenting with the possibility. She took a look at the first and third chromosomes, and her frown deepened. Their mad scientist knew what they were doing that’s for sure. She returned to their list and pointed out their likely candidates. “This isn’t the work of some experimenting mad scientist. This is someone who knows what they are doing. Dr. Singh oversees the exobiology lab and he has a background in genetics. He’s been in and out of the labs all day.” Including one visit between Demil’s discovery and their arrival to the lab.

“But look here.” V’alura pointed towards another name. “Dr. Velkal has made three visits to the lab over the past week. She’s in planetary science, so why is she making so many visits in exobiology? She does have a background in biology, specifically planetary ecosystems. She’s an experienced and accomplished scientist.” Then there was the last name that stood out. “Dr. Quloxia, civilian scientist, and married to one of the engineers I think. He’s trained in a wide variety of scientific fields and usually fills in for other scientists or to shore up numbers for the harder projects.” Both Dr. Quloxia and Dr. Velkal were also in since Demil’s last visit.
