After checking in with the CNS, Zarus headed to sickbay to get their boarding evaluation and to report for duty.

Sickbay had the familiar sterile smell that Zarus found comforting…

It was mid-afternoon, and sickbay was quiet, the day shift had just been dismissed for their lunch break, and other than a nurse taking inventory in the ship medical stores CMO Davenport was the only one around. Looking up from the PaDD he was reading Harvey watched as the young office brandishing a blue medical uniform walked in. Rising to his feet he walked around his desk and up to the officer introducing him as you did. “What up Doc” he said in a humorous manner.

Not understanding Davenport’s reference or humour, DeSai replied deadpan to the question.

“Ensign DeSai reporting for aboard for my boarding evaluation and for duty,” they said.

“Take a seat,” he said pointing to the vacant biobed allowing DeSai to perch themselves on the biobed. Harvey wheeled over an equipment tray grabbing a PaDD of his desk as he did. Arriving back at the biobed the Lieutenant skimmed over the PaDD before addressing the ensign once again “So Ensign DeSai, I see we’ve had you most recents medical report sent across from your last posting. The report it about 12 weeks old has anything new changed since then?” he enquired

Davenport, CMO

The skim read of the medical record would tell Davenport that although Zarus’ gender identity is non-binary, they were assigned male at birth. The record included details of their Retnax prescription and details of their average stats.

It would also show that at the time of the last checkup Zarus had been treated for a broken wrist sustained whilst on duty.

“Nothing new. The stiffness in my wrist has gone as expected,” Zarus replied as they held up their right hand and moved wrist forwards and backwards to demonstrate.

It was at this point a teenage girl’s voice came from the entry way, “..Help? I need some help here.” The girl said clutching her green bloodied bleeding hand. She was in her early teens in a grey jump suit. “..I cut my wrist while trying to prepare my Mom a salad.” She said as one of the nurses helped her over to the biobed. The girl as many of the older Angel staff knew was the half-human/romulan daughter. The nurse meanwhile helped the girl up onto the biobed.

”..Let me see the hand Tel’eck, it might hurt a bit but we will get you patched up and alert your Mother.” the nurse said.

Tel’eck loosened the hold on the cut letting the blood seep again into the towel of the nurse. At mention of her Mother finding out she shook her head. “..No! I....I was stupid I was trying to prepare her a salad before she got off work as a surprise! If you tell her the surprise will be ruined” She said.

From their own biobed Zarus smiled reassuringly. “We wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise, would we?” Zarus offered not knowing that Tel’eck’s mother was the captain.

“I’m sure that Tel’eck is old enough to tell her mother herself,” they hinted at the nurse.
