Rhansi paused, holding still as he contemplated the Elder One’s words. “Elder One,” he said slowly. “When you say ‘from further beyond”…” He glanced at Drudoc and then at Hayley as she approached. “Do you mean ‘further beyond’ from within your galaxy, or… like us?”

The idea that this was a potential… nexus for lost travellers made his head spin, but that was getting too far ahead.

”..As I said earlier, no known race has extra-galactic travel abilities. Though some come from far and wide in this galaxy. Most are lone travelers, sleeper ships, or generational ships on exploration and trade missions..” He said.

Nivor nodded, sipping his fruit juice. This was the expected answer, even if he’d briefly considered otherwise. He glanced about the table before he continued.

“We noticed advertisements for goods as we approached the system” he said, setting the cup down. “Is there a unified currency in use at this trade hub? What is the normal trade operation like?”

”..Experiences mostly, trade of stories, of information, sometimes others trade physical goods and services or ideas. It varies from group to group and day to day on what value such things run. In general those are the resources most people trade with beyond any local cultural currency.” He said.

Serenity listened intently. Then turned her head sideways, a confused look on her face. “Ummm… I may have missed or forgotten this but what is a generational ship?” She asked. A ship with multiple generations came to mind but something told her that was not quite right. “Is it like a family ship?” she added.

”..Indeed Ensign. Why just a few months ago we had an extensive trade of experiences by a small fleet of such generational ships. Each ship dated back hundreds of years and spanned 4 of the species life times of families. They lacked any form of true faster than light travel methods so relied on such means to explore and expand. If I recall right they came from over 400 light years or so away from here, quite a stretch of time and distance even for people with faster than light means like ourselves..” The Elder One said.

Drudoc seemed interested in this, “..Where did this fleet go after visiting here?” she asked.

The Elder One turned in Drudoc’s direction. “..Their fleet split into two groups, one was to settle in a nearby star system, the other decided to continue their explorations and travels. I can provide a directional heading to your science department if you are so interested and are willing to trade for such information.” he said.

”..What sort of information would you like to know?” Drudoc replied.

”..I’m curious about your Federation, a more indepth greeting and dialogue of what makes it up would be quite valuable to my people..” He stated.

Drudoc glanced at the XO and then nodded, “..Lt Commander Rhansi can get such downloaded for you then later..” She said.

”..Excellent Captain! Most excellent..” The Elder one said bubbling with excitement through his jelly like body.

Rhansi nodded at the request. There were standard information packages set up by the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps specifically for first contact scenarios like these, with information on the worlds of the Federation. The idea of trade based solely on information was interesting, and he would think further on it.

“The Federation consists of over 300 member worlds, and many more protectorates,” he responded, shifting in his seat. “I will get you information on them, certainly.”
