Again, Nivor paused outside the door of his destination. Part of his job as the executive officer was ensuring the safety of the ship and its crew, and for that he would rely on this next person a great deal. For whatever reason, maybe being the sole Barzan most had ever met, he had poor experiences with the chiefs of security on his previous vessels, at least initially. He tried not to see this as a “pattern,” but it was hard not to.

He sighed and entered in his passcode to enter the security office armory complex before approaching the door to the chief’s office and pressing the door chime to alert his presence.

Joseph Rainns was just about off the clock for the evening, he was planning on having dinner with Sharah once he was done and he was looking forward to it. He was surprised by the ringing of his chime. “Enter” he said. He had become accustomed to scheduled appointments, and the spontaneity of the whoever was behind the door alarmed him. He tensed up ever so slightly, just in case.
