Sharah turned out of the Arboretum and towards the fore turbolift. The nice thing about the arboretum being on deck 14 was it was one deck below the science offices, but that mean that it was also on the same deck as the main security office on the aft end of deck 14. It was nice that her labs and his office and security complex were so close. They passed in the hall multiple times a day. Right now though, Sharah didn’t want him thinking about work, so she turned away from them heading fore and port. There were science labs on the fore starboard side of the deck as well. Sharah didn’t feel like getting caught by a needy NE at the moment.“Deck 4,” she said quietly after they entered the turbolift. Stepping out of the turbolift she headed right down the corridor and then keyed in the code to their door. Once the door had shut though, she turned into his arms, needing, just for a moment, to be close. She was doing okay, but the what ifs that seemed to plaque her, were still around, and the what if he hadn’t been on board bothered her more than any other. It was irrational, of course, because he was there, and she needed a moment to remind herself of that.
After a moment she walked into the kitchen and took out two wine glasses, and pulled open a lower drawer that was actually a small wine fridge. ‘Pick some wine?’ She walked into the bedroom and a minute later water could be heard running.
Lt jg Fayth, CSOJoseph followed Sharah to their quarters, he could both her anxiety about him and herself, and conversely her desire to subdue them. He smiled as she turned into him. He smiled. ‘Why are your thoughts plagued like that?’ He asked, ‘Why does me not being here bother you? I am.’ He asked as she went into the bedroom, he stood next to the replicator, pondering what kind of wine he was in the mood for.

Sharah thought about it, trying to make clear what she felt was happening. She came back out of the bedroom, wrapped in robe. ‘I think because of the noise. It is very easy, when the noise is too much, the waves too high, for them to feed my own fears. I haven’t had time to try and rise above it.’ Sharah ‘surfed’ the ocean of noise, and when it was violent and storming, as it was now, it took a lot of effort. ‘You are here though. I just needed to try and get rid of it.’ She settled gently into her spot, ‘But now that I’m here, it won’t bother me so much.’ She glanced at the still empty wine glasses, and that was fine, if he didn’t want any. Instead she moved over to the record player, putting on the first record she touched, the turned one of the knobs, starting the table turning and then turned another to set the volume. Joseph’s favorite: Sinatra.
Lt jg Fayth, CSO‘What are your fears imzadi?’ Joseph asked, replicating a bottle of Moscato, he knew fruity wines were not traditional male drinks, but this was one tradition he did not care for. He poured both of them a modest amount of wine. He watched her pick out a record and listened as his favorite tune came on. ‘Oh you know me so well.’ He thought.

She smiled, glad that he liked her choice of the record, ‘I hope so, I try.’ Sharah easily knew just about anyone, but it wasn’t that way with Joseph. His mind was his own unless he let her, and that, in her opinion, had been a beautiful gift. The chance to get to know someone in a genuine way. At the same time though he shared everything with her, never baulking at her gift. She thought about his question. ‘I won’t lie and say that this whole situation doesn’t make me fearful. I was thinking about it while I was working. What will happen to our families? Not seeing them again.’ She glanced at her ring, ‘That they won’t be there to see us get married or have children. That’s not scary I guess, but makes me sad. But this is the unknown, and we are trained for this, but…’ She sipped the wine and took a deep breath, ‘we know the dangers back home, we don’t know what’s here. What if we don’t make it back? What if you get hurt?” She stopped there because the what ifs could go out of control and she knew that. It was a great skill, to ask what if and see the possibilities, but it was a hurdle when they turned negative. She took his glass and nodded toward the bedroom. ‘The water should be nice and hot now.’
