Tabris blushed ever so slightly, he had done plenty of work with this and had hoped it would be useful. He knew she appreciated it, still she would pick up on his embarrassment. He looked over the map and said, “Filtered it is than!” With a slightly weaker smile he programmed the replicator to send out standard water and plumbed the drain line into the matter reprocessor directly below the drain. “So anything you put down the drain will be turned into base matter for your replicator, unless you shove a steak in there it should be good.” Tabris said as he reached for his tools, a few feet too short before sitting up, whacking his head on the counter top. He held up a hand to signify he was fine as he blinked and realized that his glasses had been knocked off. He reached around a bit to find them and put them on his face before looking over to his tool bag and grabbed a couple spools of wire to start the electrical work.

Oh....she was a little disappointed. That’s not what she had meant. “Oh I didn’t mean that, I just don’t know which to pick. I was hoping showing you the map would help.” She watched him bang his head, and winced in sympathy. She did stuff like that a lot too. Usually when the noise was too loud, it got worse. She didn’t want to be in his way so she moved back to her desk and stared at the map for a moment and then turned the console back to what she had been working on before. It was … a never ending circle. She wasn’t going to find the answer that day. “I really like the way it’s coming along. I really appreciate the work you’ve put in to it.”

Tabris’s emotion of embarrassment increased as said, “I’m so sorry Lieutenant I totally misinterpreted what you said, let me correct that. Thank you for letting me know.” He swallowed after clearing his throat as he looked at the map and said, “I think I know right were that is. My folks and I used to visit there in the summer when I was just a little kid. I learned not to go hours without sunscreen… turns out El-Aurian skin reacts remarkably similar to human skin in the sun. Especially for an 11 year old kid who refused to put his shirt on.” The specific area on the coast line corresponded to the old earth Sea Rim State Park and Tabris adjusted the water to the proper mineral content and opened the tap to pour a glass and handed it to Sharah, “How does this taste?” He watched her sit and get to work as he finished the wiring for the oven and lighting before connecting it to the small fusion generator. “I’m glad you like it, I really am. And thank you, it’s always nice to hear” Tabris said, the thoughts were more calm and appreciative now.

“It’s okay. I wasn’t very clear about it.” She took a sip and grinned. “I have no idea if it’s right but I like it. We get so used to everything being so decided for us and so perfect that we forget the real stuff isn’t like that.” She watched him work a bit but had no idea what he was doing. “Honestly when I made the request I never thought it would be like this.” She watched him plug in the generator. She got up and went digging through a storage tote and came back with a bottle of wine. It was a small bottle as far as that went and had already been opened, but she hadn’t had any in a very long time. Part of the kitchen design was a very small wine fridge. She opened it and put the bottle inside with a smile. She looked at the kitchen and smiled. “It is perfect.”

He poured himself a glass of water from the tap and took a sip. That was a memory that was shot forward to his mind that was potent but pleasant all the same. “That’s the water I remember” Tabris said as he guzzled it down and put the glass in the replicator to be reprocessed. He watched her put the bottle in the cooler, that was a bottle that meant something to her and was precious, maybe one day he would make those memories too. Tabris tested the oven after connecting it and was happy that it was flawlessly working quietly. “So if you don’t mind me asking, what did you think it would be like?” He asked as he finished the paneling around the generator to make it fit seamlessly into the cabinetry. “I still have your lighting to work on and then furniture if you still want to pick that out?”

Tabris Asam, Eng

“Honestly I figured it would be like a change of wall color, maybe swap out some furniture for standard stuff in the computer. Maybe a few small kitchenette type pieces. I didn’t know we could do all this.” She grins, “I really do love it. When I was told we, you know, all of us on board, could redesign our quarters since we’re on long term missions I thought it was nice, but figured it would still, for the most part, look like standard issue quarters.” She nodded, “Yes I would love to pick out the furniture. I know we already decided on the cherry wood and the fabric types and colors. You said you’d have examples for me to look at.”

Tabris smiled as he listened to what she thought. “You know, with anyone else it might just have been a change of color and a few little pieces, but you got the one guy who used to design these for a living!” He stood and grabbed a holo emitter from his cart and set it up to show over the standard edition couch. He then pulled out his antique PaDD and pulled up a series of designs for furniture and said, “So we have a few styles that we can explore” as he spoke he sent a few designs to the emitter ranging from a foresty log cabin look to a beach front bungalow look. “Why don’t you pick an initial design and we can adjust from there?”

Tabris Asam, Eng

Sharah watched as Tabris showed her several pieces. She didn’t like the foresty look at all. The last pieces she liked but just couldn’t seem to decide. She glanced at the pictures sitting on her desk waiting to be put up and then back to the couch options he was showing her. She finally settled on the next to last one with a sigh. “I’m sorry Tabris. I’m not trying to be difficult. I like that one though. It’s not so heavy in the room, or I’m not sure of the word. Can we just have everything else kind of match that?” She sat down while he worked, rubbing her temple absently. Why did this ship have to be so loud? She picked up one of the pictures and put it face down on the shelf, putting the rest up on the shelves. She’d have to clear the desk so the new one could be put in its place.

Tabris didn’t have the faintest idea of what it was like to have the struggles and gifts that Sharah had but he got the distinct impression that it was overwhelming at this time. He nodded graciously and turned off the holo projector, turning to set them up at the windows and setting a small PaDD next to Sharah on the shelf, letting her pick what the networked projectors showed but letting her mess with the system at her own time. He excused himself and pulled up the collection she had picked out and worked on replicating everything in the shop to her specifications, all in all it took around an hour and a half as he got all the pieces ready and placed in the middle of the room for site to site transport.

Sharah was grateful that Tabris seemed to understand what she wanted for the room. She nodded absently at the PaDD. Once he left she looked over it and played with it a bit. She called up the weather reports for the last year for gulf coast and then programmed the emitters to change with each day, reflecting the current, or last years current, weather on the holo projectors. It was like looking out the windows of the cabin. “I know it’s an illusion, Joseph, but right now, it helps. I know you wouldn’t agree. It’s not real. I know that,” she was talking to herself staring at the picture of the two of them that was still sitting on her desk. She ate lunch, actually using the kitchen Tabris had installed. Suddenly a large blue shimmer appeared in her room, startling her until she realized it was the furniture. She laughed a little and waited for Tabris to reappear.

Tabris did indeed re-appear shortly thereafter and said, “Son of a gun, I thought I’d beat them here and be able to warn you! My legs aren’t the fastest anymore I guess.” He said as he moved the old furniture into a pile and activated the site to site transporters to move the old pieces to be reclaimed into the matter stores. Starting to move the furniture in place where the old was. “Have you thought about finishings? Like pillows or rugs?” He said as he moved the couch into it’s home before he paused and said, “Scrap that, finishing elements can wait, you just take it easy and we can work on wrapping it up here another time if you like.”
