Sharah had the day off. She’d gone in early because she couldn’t sleep to finalize some reports and then returned. Since the living area was finished she was putting some of her things back. Her books on the shelves and then her pictures. There were 6 of them of different sizes. The first was of her parents and her as a baby with Andrew on her father’s lab, and the second was a picture of her and her brother when she was about 8. The third was a picture of Andrew at his graduation from the Academy. The fourth was her and Andrew; Sharah had been 15, they were at the hospital together, and she did not look well in the picture. She loved the photo though. Andrew had come home to see her when he found out she was sick. He had only been able to stay for a day before he had to report for duty. The 5th picture Sharah usually kept in a drawer. She was little, about 4 and she was holding a small orange kitten. She kept the picture to remind herself, but she didn’t want it on the desk. The last picture was of Sharah and young man. They are sitting on the floor of what must be standard star fleet quarters. They are both leaned against the couch with a chess board in front of them. The board and pieces made of ebony and cherry wood, like she’d chosen for her quarters. She’s laughing in the picture and the young man has a dastardly grin on his face, obviously silently laughing at and with her.

Sharah looks up as Tabris walks in. “Good morning. Would you like something?” she waves at the replicator. She was tired, she hadn’t slept well and Tabris was actually a very nice person. And she had no where to be or go at the moment. She really didn’t feel like wandering the ship, but she supposed she could head back to the arboretum for the day. She didn’t want to be in the way.

Tabris smiled as he walked in and set his tool bag down, the corner of his lips higher on the left side showing off a little teeth as a way to indicate he was genuinely happy to be here and to see her. “You really are making it a home here, I’m glad to see that.” He commented as he prepared some tools for getting the plumbing done. A few copper pipes and couplings, exactly replicated to the dimensions of her quarters meant he didn’t have to cut anything and the technology he used to adhere the planks to the wall meant that he didn’t have to sweat the copper which was nice. “Computer, can you please make me a cup of lavender mint tea please? Thank you” He said as he looked over the half built cabinets and began to line up the pipes.

Sharah was always surprised when Tabris thanked the computer when making a request. He’d done it when he’d come to help her plan this project. It was endearing, like something your grandfather would do. Of course Tabris was MUCH older than that. At his comment of making it home she smiled tiredly. “I figured since you were done over here, I could put some of it back up.”

After getting them in place he remembered the tea and rose to grab it as he said, “I think this part will go quickly, trickiest part is programming the mini industrial replicator to get just the right taste in the water as well as the output pressure. So where again did you say the cabin was?” He asked while he put the tea down and got on his knees to begin testing the output pressures, getting sprayed in face in the process. Coughing a little, “Might be a little strong.....”

She’d been lost in some recent information she’d received from Betazed. She had been reading and then making notes on a PaDD she pulled out of the desk. When he started talking she looked up. “Oh, the Gulf Coast of the North American continent on Earth. Right on the water. You can actually see the water from the windows.” She missed that cabin. It was just a tad bigger…actually it wasn’t, the shape was more square than rectangular but these quarters were starting to feel like it. It would be a long time before she and Joseph got back there. She supposed they’d actually live in the cabin for awhile, before they built the bigger house, or maybe they’d keep both. She’d like that. It felt like home. This, she looked around, looked like home. It was missing something very important though to make it feel that way.

Nodding Tabris clicked his tongue in his cheek a couple times before saying, “Computer would you please replicate me Tabris 323c? Thank you” As he finished talking the tap water samples from Galveston, Houston, Baton Rouge, Mobile, Pensacola, Clearwater, and Cape Coral swirled into existence, about 100ml each in color coded glasses ranging from green to purple. He carefully placed the tray on the counter top and said, “Sharah when you have a moment would you mind sampling these waters for me? I want to make sure that it’s what you remember and if it’s none of these than I can always make some more samples. If you need more just let me know!” Tabris said as he climbed onto the ground to start hooking up the sink and installing the shelving on the lower cabinets.

Sharah walked over to the counter and tasted them all. “Ummm I’m pretty sure the water was filtered like it is here. I didn’t notice a difference in it. But I can show you where it was.” She walks over to her computer and pulls up, after several minutes, a map of the area. She zooms in on the gulf area and right up to the coast line. She can’t get close enough to actually show him the exact cabin. “It’s more wild than urban. Only a few cabins near by and not within miles of each other. The sand is literally the backyard.” She points to where the area is. “I appreciate the accuracy, but I wouldn’t know what the water would have tasted like, it was like what I can get out of the replicator here. I didn’t notice a difference.”

Tabris blushed ever so slightly, he had done plenty of work with this and had hoped it would be useful. He knew she appreciated it, still she would pick up on his embarrassment. He looked over the map and said, “Filtered it is than!” With a slightly weaker smile he programmed the replicator to send out standard water and plumbed the drain line into the matter reprocessor directly below the drain. “So anything you put down the drain will be turned into base matter for your replicator, unless you shove a steak in there it should be good.” Tabris said as he reached for his tools, a few feet too short before sitting up, whacking his head on the counter top. He held up a hand to signify he was fine as he blinked and realized that his glasses had been knocked off. He reached around a bit to find them and put them on his face before looking over to his tool bag and grabbed a couple spools of wire to start the electrical work.

Oh....she was a little disappointed. That’s not what she had meant. “Oh I didn’t mean that, I just don’t know which to pick. I was hoping showing you the map would help.” She watched him bang his head, and winced in sympathy. She did stuff like that a lot too. Usually when the noise was too loud, it got worse. She didn’t want to be in his way so she moved back to her desk and stared at the map for a moment and then turned the console back to what she had been working on before. It was … a never ending circle. She wasn’t going to find the answer that day. “I really like the way it’s coming along. I really appreciate the work you’ve put in to it.”

Tabris’s emotion of embarrassment increased as said, “I’m so sorry Lieutenant I totally misinterpreted what you said, let me correct that. Thank you for letting me know.” He swallowed after clearing his throat as he looked at the map and said, “I think I know right were that is. My folks and I used to visit there in the summer when I was just a little kid. I learned not to go hours without sunscreen… turns out El-Aurian skin reacts remarkably similar to human skin in the sun. Especially for an 11 year old kid who refused to put his shirt on.” The specific area on the coast line corresponded to the old earth Sea Rim State Park and Tabris adjusted the water to the proper mineral content and opened the tap to pour a glass and handed it to Sharah, “How does this taste?” He watched her sit and get to work as he finished the wiring for the oven and lighting before connecting it to the small fusion generator. “I’m glad you like it, I really am. And thank you, it’s always nice to hear” Tabris said, the thoughts were more calm and appreciative now.

“It’s okay. I wasn’t very clear about it.” She took a sip and grinned. “I have no idea if it’s right but I like it. We get so used to everything being so decided for us and so perfect that we forget the real stuff isn’t like that.” She watched him work a bit but had no idea what he was doing. “Honestly when I made the request I never thought it would be like this.” She watched him plug in the generator. She got up and went digging through a storage tote and came back with a bottle of wine. It was a small bottle as far as that went and had already been opened, but she hadn’t had any in a very long time. Part of the kitchen design was a very small wine fridge. She opened it and put the bottle inside with a smile. She looked at the kitchen and smiled. “It is perfect.”

He poured himself a glass of water from the tap and took a sip. That was a memory that was shot forward to his mind that was potent but pleasant all the same. “That’s the water I remember” Tabris said as he guzzled it down and put the glass in the replicator to be reprocessed. He watched her put the bottle in the cooler, that was a bottle that meant something to her and was precious, maybe one day he would make those memories too. Tabris tested the oven after connecting it and was happy that it was flawlessly working quietly. “So if you don’t mind me asking, what did you think it would be like?” He asked as he finished the paneling around the generator to make it fit seamlessly into the cabinetry. “I still have your lighting to work on and then furniture if you still want to pick that out?”

Tabris Asam, Eng

“Honestly I figured it would be like a change of wall color, maybe swap out some furniture for standard stuff in the computer. Maybe a few small kitchenette type pieces. I didn’t know we could do all this.” She grins, “I really do love it. When I was told we, you know, all of us on board, could redesign our quarters since we’re on long term missions I thought it was nice, but figured it would still, for the most part, look like standard issue quarters.” She nodded, “Yes I would love to pick out the furniture. I know we already decided on the cherry wood and the fabric types and colors. You said you’d have examples for me to look at.”
