Sharah smiled just a little. “Give the chance we would have been a force to be reckoned with. There was a fire on board. Spanned 3 decks. A massive systems casscade failure. Ashlyn and I were first on scene. She’s security and I have search and rescue training. We did what had to be done, ya know. We had cleared over half the deck when the CoS showed up and ordered us back with people still needing help. Ashlyn had to go that was her DH, but I didn’t. It put her in a bad spot. Despite my better judgement we went back. When it comes to people being in need of medical help, or help at all, I don’t take to people on a power trip. I expected the CoS to be…to work well with others and be practical. She wasn’t. I guess I’m spoiled that way.” And at that comment Sharah grins a little, “My fiancé and my older brother are both security chiefs. I wasn’t very nice to Ashlyn’s DH. Got me in trouble. I went back later and watched the security feeds, I still can’t figure out what she saw that we did wrong. We were working through the deck at speed and efficiency. We could have lost people.”

Tabris just shook his head, he couldn’t believe that two exceptionally talented officers who had a handle on the situation would be pulled away. “I’m no captain, first officer, or department head as you well know but I have been back before Starfleet ever existed. I was the first officer of the SS Jerome back in 2103 and it was impulse only and you can imagine back in those days the tech was far, far more crude. We had failures and problems all the time when compared to this marvel of technology. I had plenty of times that I was told to piss off by my crew in the middle of an emergency and you know what? They were right. They had a handle on what exactly was going on and knew how to handle it because they had the training and knew what to do to fix a problem and avert further disaster. The fact that that department head c riould risk other people’s lives because you and Ashlyn were doing a better job than they were. That just rankles me. ” Tabris said as he wallowed and shifted a little to crack part of his shoulder, “What did your fiancé and brother say about it? I’m sure they weren’t nice either!”

“I couldn’t believe it either. I kind of told her off. I had made a designated safe area for people we found. She tried to move it and I told her to mind her own business. I was the ranking doctor on deck and it was my job not hers to determine how and when to move my patients. She reported me. Or she said she was going to. But my DH ended up either ignoring it or she didn’t. He told me I did a good job and put me in charge of reviewing emergency protocol with the rest of the med staff.” Sharah laughed, “My brother and fiancé? My brother reminded me that she was the ranking officer, but she was wrong and I had to choose my battles. He didn’t understand it though. Joseph,” she smiles, “Wanted to know if I wanted him to do something about the CoS. But he wouldn’t have and I wouldn’t want him too. But he agreed with me, I’m spoiled. It was a good lesson though. I was right, she was wrong, and I learned that day, I was willing to take a hit to my career to do the right thing.”

That smile that he had earlier returned as he heard the responses from her own DH at the time, as well as Andrew and Joseph’s replies. “You know I’m sure this doesn’t make me a good officer, but if there’ anything I learned in my life it’s that a person’s principles are all that they truly have. Standing up for what’s right shouldn’t be tempered by the number of metal dots on someone’s neck or the title before their name.” He said with a bit of a smirk, “For what it’s worth, I think you were right too”.

The holodeck changed and it was not obvious at first where they were. But after a moment it was clear that this had been a double quarters for junior officers. There was a common bathroom and living area but only one bedroom. And the living area was…well the best way to describe it was a Jefferies tube and parkour course had a baby. Sharah stands up and using a series of stools and small tables she climbs up onto the top of a Jeffries tube and perches her self there. She points off to her side, “Take them like a stair case and then you can sit there.” Where she’s pointing is a Jefferies tube, but it’s been cut away with cushions on it to make it like a hanging couch.

A smile came across his face as he did his best to make his way to the hanging couch. “This is fantastic! How did you convince the captain to let you build all of this?” He asked as he finally sat himself down in the seat and adjusted a cushion he was awkwardly perched on. “I’ve always been amazed with what people come up with, rooms can be so boring when you could literally have a jungle gym!” He said excitedly as he watched Sharah reminisce.

Sharah laughed, and then turned, straddling the tube, to face him and then leaning forward, elbows on the tube, chin on her hands. “We didn’t ask, we just did it. On Europa the rule was you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn’t damage the ship and you have the credits for it. We recycled A LOT from the standard trappings, repurposed a lot and then used our credits for it. Between the two of us we had just enough. That junction over there,” She points to what looks like the outside of Jefferies tube junction, but about 25% smaller, in the far corner, “Is Ashlyn’s bedroom. And you can crawl through the tubes too.” She points to one on the other side that angles down and opens up in front of what was her bedroom door. “We even had a slide.” The ‘couch’ where he’s sitting allows for someone to actually crawl into the tubes and move around the room that way. “Ashlyn is high energy so this set up actually worked to allow her to get that out and rest. The couch was made for me originally because I couldn’t sit up here without falling. Now, after a year, it’s not a problem. I miss it.”

Tabris just laughed. He had gotten permission for a ‘glass bottomed boat’ that would cost him a pretty penny but he had just received a letter that changed all of that. “This is amazing, I’m so boring that I’m fine with a couch and a comfy chair with a few candles! Well that’ll have to change but anyway…” Tabris said trailing off. “So this worked beautifully for both of you? That’s wonderful to hear, and I have to say this is the most creative I’ve ever seen, I’ll have to take some pointers.” He thought for a moment looking around, “So why not put up something like it again?”

Tabris Asam, Eng

“Well this was all Ashlyn’s idea. She needed this, to be able to have a way to feel safe and relax. I still had my room, it was normal, and we had this shared space. It was…awkward for awhile. I mean I’m not that coordinated, but the concentration it took helped me ignore the noise for awhile.” She waves around, “Take all the ideas you want. As for why not again? Well this was Ashlyn’s thing. It was fun, but this isn’t home to me. My cabin is home. ‘Go home to where you love being alive.’ And I love being alive at that cabin.”
Lt.jg Fayth, CSO

“I can understand that” He said in reply as he tried to imagine what either of them dealt with. “I appreciate it! Don’t think it’ll work with the kid though” He said, totally not realizing what he just let slip. “I’m glad that you found that home, I hope that your quarters are still going well? Any other problems with the piping besides the leak I fixed last week? Didn’t think those pipes could!” Tabris finished as what he said finally hit him. If she was listening, she’d pick up that his mind was full of anxiety and worry. He had come to do the parkour to get his mind off of the worry.
