USS Ark Angel
XO's Office - Checking In with XO
A slow grin started appearing on his face at the question. “I-I don’t even know where to begin sir! This ship ..” He shook his head a few times, side to side. “I haven’t seen anything like it before! When I heard that it’s class was a Mythology class I didn’t even recognize it.” From his voice it was easy to tell that his excitement was rising. “The first thing I usually do whenever I hear about a ship is to pull up it’s schematics, though for this ship .. it was rather difficult.” He frowned a bit, but there was determination in his eyes from how he was telling his story. “Seems that newer ships are a little difficult to get a hold of. Granted! The super detailed schematics were off limits and classified, I was allowed to get a copy of the basic blueprint of rooms, floor layouts, and what not. Nothing was labeled, but I had a feeling where most things would be! Not to mention her heart beats with a Class X Warp Core! And two tractor emitters; Not one, but TWO!” It was at that moment where it seemed like he realized that he might have been overdoing it. “Ah .. my apologies sir, I uh .. I got carried away.” He set his animated hands that were basically telling the story with him back in his lap and he tugged at his left sleeve again.

: : : : Cochrane chuckled and leaned forward. “I felt the same way when I was assigned, Chief.” he said conspiratorially. “No apologies needed. So tell me about your background. Why do you think Star Fleet thinks you will make a good Chief Engineer?”
: : : :
: : : He raised his eyebrow questioningly, “Do you have an Engineering background as well Commander ..?”
: :
: : Cochrane laughed and shook his head. “Oh, no. I do not have the patience to be an Engineer, Chief. I am a Security and Tactical officer by training, but have spent the past few years expanding into the Diplomatic and Inter-species Dialogue arenas.”
: : :
: : : Chris though for a moment and shrugged, “To be honest Commander, I don’t know what Starfleet thinks. Would be great if a Betazoid could tell me, but if I had to guess..” He tilted the right side of his head with the shorter part of his parted hair to the side and scratched it for a second. “I suppose it’s just simply because I love what I do and personally, I like to think I do it well. I’m never afraid to learn new things or to take advice from a different perspective.”
: : :
: : : Chris though for a moment, almost as if hesitating before continuing. “I’m usually pretty up front about everything and I like to believe there’s always an order to things, a process for lack of a better term. Even for small things like a console being out, where would one start with a down console? The natural thing is to check to see if it has power, right? It’s kind of like that .. if that makes sense at all for you sir. I think this keeps me rather organized as well when it comes to fixing problems, performing in a pinch, regulating maintenance, or modifying systems based on new Starfleet regulation. In short, I love what I do, I like to think I’m decent and efficient, and I usually have a cool head even in times of crisis.” He sat there, confident in his answer, but still tried to be humble in the summary of it. His eyes and expression held no worry or doubt as he believed it to be true.

: : Cochrane smiled at the young officer. “Excellent. And I agree. There should be a process for such matters. And I look forward to seeing you get some of those processes in place. Do you have any concerns or questions before we get into the expectations the Captain and I will have for you in your new role?”
Cochrane, XO
: :
: “Only the usual kinds of questions sir. Just ones like if there’s anything I should be worried about, has she [The Ark Angel] missed any maintenance, just want to make sure I can be prepared for stepping into the role sir.” He glanced off to the right trying to think of any other possible questions he might have. “Aside from those .. I can’t really think of any?” He was fairly certain if he could think of any more later in the future he could always ask the XO at another point in time. He was eager to hear the expectations so he could best devise how everything should be in order to meet the expectations.

A check with the ship’s logs would show the ship was up to date on all maintenance needs, even the more irregular ones. Not surprising given that the ship’s CO, Fleet Captain Drudoc Andone had formerly been an engineer herself and probably was a stickler most of all in the maintenance and running of her ship.
