USS Ark Angel
Settling In and Rearranging - CSO's Office
[snip]
Fayth had just gotten to this point of setting up her department office when there was a ‘ping’ from the door chime. Curiously she couldn’t pick up any ‘signals’ from the person at her door mentally. As she might ponder this her delay caused another ‘ping’ to sound a moment later.
The sound of the chime, and no sense of the presence on the other side was curious. You won’t know I’m there until I want you to. Sharah could hear Joseph’s words, playing across her screen all those months ago. He was very good at surprising her. But he wasn’t scheduled to arrive yet. And then she wondered if it was the Vulcan XO who, had an uncanny ability to totally block the pain his mind caused, even though she could still hear and sense him. But it wasn’t him. The visitors they had were unknown to her, and she was wary of them. The evidence didn’t add up to her. Maybe she shouldn’t let them in. ‘You’re being paranoid Sharah. Knock it off.’ “Enter!”
Once she would finally allow entrance the door swooshed open and the mystery of why she couldn’t sense her guest was answered, it was a small waist high robot on treads! The robot was quite simplistic in design, but its outer shell was nothing short of artistic in scope. Made up of ceramic plastics, it had a myriad of paintings on it ranging from a 4-6 year old’s hands of smiling yellow or orange suns, to more talented pieces of little connected colored pieces glued on. The ‘head’ of the little robot on treads was a large plastic half dome filled with a jelly like blue substance in which were suspended little hand carved plastic stars, squares, triangles, circles, and other shapes done by a child’s hand ranging from 6-8 years. The body, in addition to the above mentioned little colored suns, and plastic puzzle pieces and two whirring stubby ‘arms’ ending in twin pinchers. Within the main body shell itself, made up of similar clear plastics, was the ‘heart’ of the robot and ‘brain’. A simple connected isolinear four chip set powered by a tiny power cell. Both arms were shaped inward holding a small bright pink sealed bag as if in offering to her as it whirred forward on its motorized treads into the office. Said treads were the most complex in design, made of rubber and plastics like the rest they were still rugged in scope for maneuvering. Stopping at the front of her desk the arms raised and set the bag in offering on it before a soft giggle echoed from somewhere on it.
Sharah suppressed a giggle at the sight of the robot. Obviously made by the ship’s children. Or…She wasn’t sure her new JOs weren’t up for some good pranks. She eyed the bag warily. It was likely to explode all over her office.
Thankfully the source was quickly identified, a speaker unit just at the top of the ‘body’ and between the ‘head’. =/\= giggle See told you she was in! giggle came an unfamiliar girl’s voice. =/\=
Sharah faithfully ignored the little girls giggles. The children had obviously gone to quite a bit of effort for this. And seeing the iso chips and power core Sharah was pretty certain Tel’eck was in on this as well. When the ‘robot’ spoke again, her suspicion was confirmed. She swivled her chair around to face her visitor and listened quite intently.
=/\= Hush! You’re ruining the surprise!! ahem =/\= Came another different girl’s voice this one more familiar as being the Captain’s daughter Tel’eck. Then in a really bad parody of robotic ‘cuteness’ she said =/\= Uh greetings! I am EXR-11!! I come bearing gifts from my homeworld! =/\= Tel’eck’s forced deep toned voice said failng to disguise herself really. Another giggle sounded over the speaker. Followed by a third girl’s softer hush.
Tel’eck & Friends
Very dramatically Sharah placed a hand over her heart. “Oh my! A first contact, and in my office, on my first day of work!” She effected a very comical bow of greeting. “Welcome EXR-11. I welcome you to the science labs.” She glances at the pink bag, still not sure it won’t explode and cover her office in slime or glitter, or both. “A gift! Oh how thoughtful. I accept on behalf of our science division.” Sharah had absolutely no idea what she was doing. She glanced up to see NE Elbbirt and NLt Zohcov stop in passing by the door, peek in, and then chuckle wandering off to suppressed giggles and whispers. Sharah shook her head, and bit her lip trying to hide her own amusement of the robot in her office.
Lt. jg Fayth, CSO
The robot’s arms and hands after a second released the bag into Fayth’s grasp. Inside the bag were three small boxes. The first was rectangular in shape, the second oval in shape, and the third had a sort of cylinder shape along the bottom finishing up at the top as a triangle. The robot after Fayth removed these spoke again, it was Tel’eck’s voice again. =/\= Ahem Among the robot people of my cyber planet we feel it fitting to gift one who we see friendship with. We hope you like these humble gifts. =/\= She said.
When Fayth opened the 1st box she found what appeared to be a 22nd century hand scanner! (OOC: Here https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/9/95/Starfleet_scanner%2C_2151.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200521000653&path-prefix=en ) at first she might assume it was a replicated prop or model. But as she soon found out when pressing the ‘open/scan’ button on the closed device it hummed to life with a whirr and beep! It was indeed functional!
‘EXR-11’ Spoke again, =/\= We found this relic of Earth’s past on a past mission. It was forgotten and left behind by an Earth crew who were visiting at the time and forgotten. Since we can not return it to its proper owner and time period we felt you should have it. =/\=
When Fayth opened the 2nd box, inside she found a pop up model cone. Each level as it rose was engraved with ‘mysterious’ symbols (likely children doodles!) by hand. The top most part of the cone had a light on it which when pressed emitted a small holo display showing the time, temperature, and Fayth’s current rank.
Again ‘EXR-11’ spoke, =/\= While we were visiting the children of this fine ship’s kindergarten through fourth grade they asked us to deliver this gift they are giving to all of the senior staff to make it easier for them to know the time, temperature for adjusting uh the temperature locally for your humanoid frames, and to inspire your rise in rank to one day command! =/\=
Once Fayth opened the third and final box, she found a series of wooden sticks, at the top of which inside a little triangle plastic see-through case were small biomes of little insects of various kinds. (OOC: Think like tiny hand sized ant farms, but with other insects and environments then just dirt)
Lastly ‘EXR-11’ spoke =/\= This last gift was from the children of the 5th and 6th grade science club, they were tasked to find a means to allow transplanted insects to thrive in small portable environments. After much lengthy debate and study this was their result! =/\= it whirred.
