Side Sim - Captain's Quarters - Fayth Visiting

Drudoc seemed quite interested in the exchange of information. Something she showed in her reply. “..Those are amazing adjustments to a regular program and training. Though I’m curious, how does the program test non-cataloged plants, fungus, or such? How would it function in those sorts of situations?..” She asked.

“The file lists the specific types of plants that we know about, but when the tricorder scans the surrounding area it’s actually looking for the chemical configuration of the plants. So instead of looking for the plant it’s just looking for chemical and mineral composition. The photos in the file are for reference mostly. Of course there is always the possibility that where ever the away team is that they can’t find the chemical make-ups needed to make the medicines, but most environments develop closely enough to be able to find something. That’s why the file consists, currently, of 3 different types of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and sedatives. I’ve also started researching ways to create anti-virals, but that is just in the beginning stages.”

”..You might find it of interest to then add in information from our brief visit to the Andromeda Galaxy while aiding the Flea’tan Alliance in setting up a trans-galatic outpost there when using their relay Jump network. We found evidence that life in many forms especially plant like had developed quite differently in forms we normally expect in our galaxy. I might even suggest speaking, albeit carefully of the topic, to Lt Commander Trainor. During his senior year academy cruise he and the senior class and Red Squad of which he was active with got transported there by a threat species. While I can’t go into full details of those events due to the Temporal Prime Directive and security clearances, the basics from Lt Commander Trainor should be ok if he’s willing to relay them to you..” Drudoc said.

“I will make note to try and speak to him. I don’t suppose we have any flora samples on board that I could grow and work with?”

”..He’s one of the youngest officers ever to be a Captain on his lost ship Mom said! Only 24 years old now, but he was younger still when those bad guys took’em..” Tel’eck chimed in.

“Really?” Fayth of course, having gone through the Academy, knew how accomplished that would make Trainor as an officer and an individual. She was appropriately impressed. “That is quite impressive. I can’t wait to meet him.”

Tel’eck nodded with a mouth full of sandwich, but her manners kept her from saying or mouthing anything while eating it seemed. Swallowing the bite she chimed in. “..And wouldn’t a lot of this be taught in the Academy survival courses to know on hand already?” She asked.

“Actually, Tel’eck, this isn’t taught in the survival courses. Basic first aid is, but this is beyond that. While I was on Earth we also tested and vetted a holographic training program. It’s available along with the file for any one who wants access to it. The program will be offered as an optional survival credit eventually. I’m working on a syllabus for the course and I have to submit it for review. But the actual file and holographic program are available now.”

”..Oh I didn’t know that. I thought the Academy taught a survival course. Huh ok..” She said finishing up her plate, she took up the other finished dishes from Fayth and Drudoc to return them to the replicator for reprocessing.

“You’re correct. There is a survival course, but the medical training that is part of it only covers a little more than basic first aid. I hope, that eventually my program will become part of the required survival training.”

Smiling a bit lovingly at her daughter’s help, Drudoc returned her attention to Fayth. “..So Ensign, tell me some of what seems to plague your mind.” She said changing the subject some. “..When we met you seemed indecisive about visiting the counseling department, unless I missed my mark on judging your actions.” She said.

Not surprised by the captains observation of her emotional turmoil, but surprised by her question and perhaps her interest, “Oh. Well I..” She took a deep breath, might as well just dive in. It wouldn’t look good for her career to avoid a direct question from one’s commanding officer. “I’m sure you reviewed my history and you know about my…unique…gift.” She still had trouble, sometimes, like now, seeing it as a gift and not a sickness. “Because of that I’m supposed to see the counselor every week. I’m not due for a few more days, but I received a letter today. I’m concerned,” she tugs her hair absently. Those who know her well know that tugging her hair or rubbing her temples are clear signs of distress, “that I’ve really hurt a friend of mine.” The last comes out on barely a whisper.
