The Memorial will be relaxing its posting limits and while I am reporting this as is required I am going on the record saying I disagree 100% with this idea that a ship that has relaxed its posting limits should not be allowed to get new members during that period It is nothing but a slap in the face for putting IRL before the club in my eyes

(I’ll make a note of this for the PDept, but just a reminder for COs that the request is for these to be emailed to pdept@star-fleet.com since this board is not checked very often when there are no discussions going on, etc.)

The reasoning was very clearly laid out in a detailed post, and there was wide agreement both inside the Personnel Department and outside the Personnel Department. To summarize:

• Retention has been a major concern over the last few months, and has resulted in a net loss in membership over the last few months.
• The first time we have seen a turnaround on this issue was November 2020.
• We want to keep up turnaround on retention of new members into December and January.
• We’re actually hoping to see more new members look into STF over the holiday.
• Placing new members on ship where the CO/XO and/or a DH can choose not to post for two weeks would be a major problem for retaining a new member placed in that ship’s department.
• Therefore, the policy put in place is that no new members are placed on ships that cannot guarantee an active CO/XO and ship DH over the holiday period.

I’m not sure how this is a “slap in the face” as you have described it. New members simply cannot be placed on ships that aren’t going to have an active CO/XO or DH. I haven’t heard anyone suggest otherwise - and, in fact, is a requirement in the written PDept placement policies over the past 15 years or more. If a ship has decided not to enforce posting requirements for RL reasons, fair enough. But that will mean the PDept will look to other ships to place potential new members until that ship’s situation changes.

My reply here is not meant to be the start of a discussion - I am just responding to the tone of the initial post. The club policy was already set after the issues were reviewed and opinions expressed in Command.

Just to add, including the above request, there are only three ships that accept new members that have indicated they are relaxing their posting requirements over the holidays (and three ships that do not accept new members or are alt-RPGs). It appears the majority of ships in the club are planning on keeping their posting requirements the same.
