Hey folks!

So on Friday we watched the DS9 episode, Trials and Tribble-ations. It seemed like a great icebreaker episode for the new watch parties and it seemed to be enjoyed by all.

For those who weren’t able to join us at that time and still wanted to participate, we’re instigating post-watch discussions a few days later so that people have time to watch the episode and participate in this discussion. The aim is to do this on the Tues or Wed following the watch party, every week.

DS9- Season 5, Episode 6 Trials and Tribble-ations

Mem-A gives a great summary: “When Temporal Investigations arrives on Deep Space 9, Sisko recounts how he and the crew of the Defiant traveled back in time to the 23rd century to prevent the assassination of Captain James T. Kirk during the original Enterprise’s mission to Space Station K-7.”

So… questions? What’s your favourite part? Any dislikes? And most importantly, would you have done what Sisko did and introduced yourself to Kirk!?

I loved this episode! But as I’m a tribble, I guess that won’t surprise anyone.

I recall Colm Meaney saying they had to be retaught how to stage fight in the style of the 1960’s because it had considerably changed by the time of the 90’s.

I also remember that the scene where Jadzia Dax walked across the bridge of the original Enterprise (well, no longer original, I guess :P) was reported as requiring some new technology techniques so that she didn’t walk through the equipment or the crew etc.

I liked the way they had DS9 and TOS crew in the line up for the dressing down by Kirk following the fight.

I thought Worf’s response about klingons and their change was better than the Enterprise solution to the Klingons change in appearance.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode, and yes, I definitely would have introduced myself to Kirk. :P

Russell ‘Tribble’ Watt

I enjoy this episode every time I watch it. There’s a lightness to it that is welcome amidst the heavier storylines DS9 produces (which is not an inherently bad thing btw). In the watch party chat we commented about how seamless they merged the old footage with the new filming and I think the production crew get a lot of kudos for all of that. Had it not been as tight, I don’t think it would be as enjoyable an episode.

The other thing that I really like is the whole recounting the story to the Department of Temporal Investigations. It’s that point where after all the time travel episodes over the different series that you go “huh, yeah, of course they’d have something like that”.

I totally would introduce myself to Kirk too. And I definitely think my CO character on teh Athena would too!
