Today’s prompt: Write a super short story (under 200 words) involving one of your favourite STF character and a visit to Quark’s (or another bar/lounge type place on a station).

“Look,” the Ferengi said to Mookie, “For the last time, we don’t serve children, and as I’ve never seen your species, I don’t know what an adult one of you looks like.”

Mookie sighed, as he didn’t like being anything other than blue and short since he retired from Starfleet. Random reality-warping wormholes had followed him throughout his career, and although he’d gotten used to them, he decided that ten years as a Lieutenant was enough. Out of Starfleet, his shape-shifting abilities were of little use. This, though, was annoying. As such, Mookie Joe Bob decided to do something he hadn’t done for five years.

“If you prefer, I can make myself look less like a child.”

With that, Mookie started to grow - first to one meter, and then two, then two and a half, to the point where he towered over Quark. His fur had also changed from blue to green, making him look less like a small, strange thing to a giant monster with a huge nose.

“Now,” Mookie said, “I want a quadruple espresso.”
Quark gulped loudly. “We have a large selection of blends from across the galaxy…”

Mookie smiled. Old skills had their advantages.
