Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? If so, along with your local events, join in and cheer on your fellow STFers as they tackle whatever their writing goal.

If you feel like it, let everyone know what you’re planning to do this year. Here’s a sample set of things you can share.

I’ll go first:

Goal: at least 50,000 words
Old School: This is a brand new novel.
Plantser: I’ve outlined quite a bit and have 32 scenes I know I need to write, but the rest I’ll figure out as I go.
Genre: Historical
Subject: Set mainly in 1908 Alberta, a family is divided when some of them, members of a religious sect, stand trial for attempted murder.

I’m planning to make the attempt this year, since I haven’t been able to complete any long form creative work in like 8 years.

I have nothing planned but a single rough character idea, and the intention of using M-W’s word of the day as a prompt.

I successfully used that schtick to write a 30 chapters in 30 days back in 07, and it was exhausting but fun. It wasn’t anywhere near 50k words, but it was fun.

We’ll see how this goes…

I’m doing Nanowrimo this year! :D

NaNo Goal: 50K Words, however if I can beat my 17k last year, I’ll be happy.
Rebel: I’m continuing a current one, however I will include word count for one blog post I’m working on (since I wasn’t able to finish it last month.)
Plotter/Pantser/Plantser: Plantser for sure, I have quite a bit outlined and in my head, but I’m confident I’ll discover more as I go.
Genre: Fantasy
Project Subject: The son of a farmer discovers a key with powers and abilities unknown to him. Soon, he’s left with nothing but that single key when everything/everyone he knows and loves burns to ground in a massive blaze. Without a home, he’s forced to run. He will discover new friends, allies, and races he never knew existed.

I think you’re realistic with your goal, which is a good start. Having a goal, but knowing what you really want is helpful. Prevents burnout and frustration at yourself if you can’t quite that target.

Not in STF, but am doing Nano again this year.

NaNo Goal: 50,000, but life happens, and any amount of words is good for me.
Old (or ancient) School here.
Plantser: I kind of know things, but don’t know other things, but know what I want to do.
Genre: Real World Adolescent coming of age story with liberal dashes of Fantasy, Comedy, Mystery, WhoDunnit, Theater/Scooby Doo Fanfiction and Romance in it for good measure.
Subject: Set in Brisbane, a junior theatre company’s production of “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” receives a funding boost from an eccentric benefactor. When unusual events and ‘accidents’ start happening to the cast and crew of the show, can the two relatively incompetent detectives assigned to the case (Jessica A Burke and Amos T Fletcher) solve what is happening before those meddling kids and their labrador retriever, Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan work out what’s going on, or will this be the 21st Century equivalent of The Scottish Play?

Heya!

I never participated in NaNoWriMo, but ever since hearing about it for the first time in 2013 I’ve been thinking about it. So this year I want to give it a try.

NaNo Goal: Finishing my outline and characters and writing a few scenes
Rebel, I guess. I’m working on a new story.
Plantser: I’ve never before wrote an actual outline and planned scenes and instead just started writing once I had created my characters. But never actually finished a story. So I’m trying something new
Genre: Sci-Fi / Post-Apocalyptic
Project Subject: Still in the working out the ideas part, but my idea as of right now: It’s post-apocalyptic and set in a small town in the northern part of what today is known as North America. While there is something like a federal government - at least in theory - especially the towns and cities further north are very independent. This particular town has matriarchic “government” and the infra structure is rather broken down; to the point where they tend to rely more on old-fashioned “technology” that doesn’t require (a lot) of electricity. It appears very harmonic on first glance, but has actually very strict rules and believe systems. So my idea is that the actual story is about a young woman finding herself, her identity in this. Maybe with the help of a newcomer to this town.

Anyway, I just registered on the NaNoWriMo website, so if anyone wants to add me my nickname is Sternchenauge.
