I am so happy to present to you an interview with our very own Vice President James Sinclair. James has been here long enough to not be called the newbie but not ready for the STF retirement home on the Norpin Colony. James has created a vast number of characters in the fleet. Check out his amazing role-playing on the ships below.

**Interview with James Sinclair by Captain Kate “Border Collie” O’Neill

1) What is your favorite color and why?

Blue, because I love the water. Although my current favorite is green and pink… because those are my daughter’s favorites.

2)What is your favorite character you have ever written?

I really like all my characters, and I hope that comes through when I write them. But if I had to choose a favorite? I would have to say it would be a toss up between Royal Sinclair on the Saracen and Urg’tohn on Oed V. Royal because he was my first character and Urg because his story is so intriguing.

3)If you were an ice cream flavor what would it be and why? Where do you come up with these questions?

Ok… ice cream. I would probably be frozen custard, and I would be butterscotch. Because most people like it, and those that don’t are just wrong.

4)What is one goal you’d like to accomplish in STF?

I don’t have specific goals. I just want to be a productive member of the club and part of our community. I just want to help as I am able to.

5)What is your favorite department to write a character for and why?

Security, hands down. It just resonates with my background in RL, so it makes coming up with tasks and responses a bit more fluid for me. Although I will say, I am having a huge amount of fun in the Medical Section as well.

6)If someone made a movie of your life would it be a drama, a comedy, a romantic-comedy, action film, or science fiction?

It would be a comedy-action film. I would be played a young Richard Moll.

7) If you were to create your own X-Fleet ship what would the theme be?

I would want to do a non-Star Fleet ship. Maybe a civilian freighter type and see how people could work in Firefly references into Trek.

8)Which Star Trek Captain steals the show? Picard or Sisko Captain Janeway.

ALWAYS Captain Janeway.

9). If you could write a theme song for one of the ships you are on what would it be?

The Manhattan.....”Spies like Us… And Them… And Her Over There… And…”

10. What is to your immediate right as you write your answer to this question. Describe it in detail?

Two inches in length. A half inch thick and one inch wide. Metallic gold. Elongated head. Two copper eyes dominate a robotic face which sits atop stubby body with cartoon-like appendages.

11. What Star Trek series is your favorite to watch?

I really liked Enterprise. I liked that they had less tech to rely on. I am enjoying Discovery, too. But I stoked about Picard. Can’t wait.

12. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Live grubs. Or maybe dog.

13. What department do you not like writing characters for and why?

I like all the departments, but I am probably the least comfortable in Engineering. I do like my current Engineer though.

14. Are you a morning or night person?

Night. Mornings are torture.

15. Do you write fan fiction and if so is it another genre other than Star Trek?

Nope, but I have thought about doing some Star Wars.

16. What is your favorite Star Trek villain race?

‘Villian’ to me is a matter of perspective. But as far as ones that have fought the Federation? Klingons all the way. Love them.

17. Who was your childhood best friend and when is the last time you spoke to them?

I moved around so much I didn’t have friends for very long. My oldest friend is from college, and I speak to him almost every week.

18. What is your biggest pet peeve?

Being late. I HATE being late. Drives my wife nuts sometimes.

19. What country have you visited that made the strongest impression on you, positive AND negative?

Positive- Scotland. It felt like I was coming home, even though that was the first time I had gone. I actually want to move my family there.

Negative- Not a country, but a place. Kowloon Walled City. At the time it was the most densely populated place in the world (it was demolished in 1993). The poverty, crime, and absolute desperation in the people there - and those that preyed on them - proved to me evil is real.

20. What is your advice as to how to start a thread?

Create a goal for your character, something you want them to accomplish or something you want the rest of the crew to learn about them. Build a setting around that, remembering that it doesn’t have to be on the ship. Then build your post and thread from there.
