A good while back, during the time of one of my predecessors , there was a short story contest. I loved it, others loved it, but it didn’t stick around, for a variety of reasons.

Well it’s back! But there’s a bit of a different format, starting November 1:

1st of the month: new topic is announced. Volunteering for judging is allowed (see below)
25th of the month: all entries due by 11:59 EST.
26th of the month: Judging begins
1st of the next month: top 3 announced as well as all entries posted to 10 forward. Critique/comment period begins
1st of following month: Cycle restarts

So each contest is a 2 month period.

Volunteering note: Volunteers are not eligible for judging. If they choose to participate, they may have their stories posted after the judging period (in a special section known as “from the judges”) but they are not allowed to submit their story for judging.

Critique/comment period note: this is a time to comment on what you liked, or offer constructive criticism on things you didn’t, or would change. This is for all stories, not just the top 3.
