Hello STF,

I am so excited to bring you this interview. I have had the pleasure of interviewing Terry Sullivan for this edition of Kate’s coffee corner. Terry has been a member of STF for sixteen years. He joined STF on Nov. 10, 2005 as Cadet Lucas Archer a science cadet on the USS Challenger. He did so well with this character that Cadet Archer became the CSO of the USS Alliance right out of the academy. This was just the first step in a long line of DH and command positions due to Terry’s incredible writing. It’s not hard to see why when the time came, the President said give this man a ship.

Over the past, sixteen years Terry has written comedy, drama, action, and in-depth character pieces that make his characters come alive. Of all the people in STF, Terry holds a special place in my heart. After leaving the academy my character Kate O’Neill was assigned to the USS Wolverine. I had no idea how lucky I was to be assigned there. The second I walked onto the USS Wolverine Terry was welcoming, supportive, and embraced every crazy idea I had. Terry encouraged me to take chances and I have had the pleasure now to write with him on several ships over the years since. Whether he is you CO, XO, DH, or just a regular officer, Terry is someone if you have the chance to write with take it. He will inspire you. Now to the official stuff and things you should know about him in the club.

Who was his first SF character?
My first character was Lt. Lucas Archer if I remember correctly. He was the CSO of the USS Alliance when Larry Garfield was the CO. Went through the Academy with him and was given the CSO spot right out of the Academy.

Which character have you been playing the longest?
My longest active character is Capt. Remy Boudreaux, current CO of the USS Wolverine. He started as an ensign tactical officer on the Polaris, I believe. He was the CTO for a couple of ships before becoming the XO of the USS Vanguard. When the CO disappeared, he became CO of that ship (my first CO position). Ray Branch was my XO and he liked my idea for a smaller ship commissioned with covert operations in mind. I also have to give a big thanks to Ray for designing the Wolverine. He took some of my ideas and ran with it and came up with a great ship!!

Okay so now let’s get to the nitty-gritty and find out the stuff we really want to know about Terry Sullivan. Since just about all the United States is in some form of winter freeze grab whatever drink makes you feel warm and cozy, curl up in your most comfy spot, and let’s find out why Terry Sullivan is one of the most fascinating members in STF.

**20 QUESTIONS WITH KATE O’NEILL **

1. Imagine this. You are in the library having a cup of coffee curled up with a book. (Hey, it’s my story and in it you are allowed to drink in the library ;) ) Suddenly off in the corner a flash of white drifts just in your peripheral vision. You look up and it’s gone. You go back to reading and suddenly a lovely lady leans over and whispers “No drinking in the library”. It’s a ghost! We all know the song but really who do call to help you grab the ghost, bag the banshee, or pick up the poltergeist?

Definitely Pete Venkman. He’s the most laid back. He doesn’t get too riled up and keeps a cool head. I think he and I are a lot alike.

2. In your opinion what would be the worst buy one get one free sale of all time?

Ex-wives. I already have two, so if it was BOGOF, I’d end up with 4, right? Don’t need that much grief in my life.

**3. What is your favorite Star Trek series and a memory you associate with it? ** 

The Original Series. I was about 4-5 years old when it first was aired. I remember sitting on the couch watching it with my dad. I also remember going to the grocery store with my mom and begging for a comic book that had the Sub-mariner on the cover. I couldn’t read yet, but I wanted it because it had Mr. Spock on the cover—The black hair, pointed ears, and arched eyebrows. It didn’t occur to me at that age why spock was wearing green swimming trunks and wings on his ankles.

**4. In STF you have several characters that seem to have a background in intelligence. Everyone knows half of the spy game is convincing someone else to believe what you or your organization wants them to believe. What secret conspiracy would you like to start? **

That Bigfoot is an alien from a highly advanced technological society. No one’s ever been able to get a clear picture of him because of the tech. It’s possible!! With the high tech cameras, we have today, you can zoom in so close that you can count the hairs on someone’s butt, but we still can’t get a good picture of Bigfoot. Coincidence? I think not!!

**5. If you could have a concert by three of your favorite musicians (past or present) who would you pick and what songs would be must-haves for them to play? ** 

Normally, I would say KISS. They are my all-time favorites, but I’ve seen them live a number of times and never been disappointed, so I’m going to go with artists I’ve never seen. First off, would have to be Boston, and they would have to play every song from their debut album. In my opinion, there is not a bad song on that album. I can listen to it over and over and never get sick of it. The second would be Steelheart. They would have to play “We All Die Young”. Great song the appeared in the soundtrack of Rockstar. Miljenko Matijevic has an incredible voice. Highly underrated as a vocalist. Finally, Conway Twitty and “She’s Got A Single Thing In Mind”. Another of my all-time favorite songs.

**6. Holiday’s are special to everyone. What is your favorite traditional or non-traditional holiday? **

September 19. Talk Like A Pirate Day. Forget all those traditional holidays. Give me something unique!!

7. What is one thing you collect and why does it make you happy? 

I used to collect comics. Mostly Marvel. I had to give it up about 10 years to support my ex-wives, cigarette, energy drink, and shoe habits. When I stopped collecting, I had just under 8200, all boxed and bagged for safe-keeping. It made me happy simply for the fact that I loved to read and when I started collecting, they were cheap to buy. Only a quarter!!

8. So your character Colter on the space ship USS Saracen had a time jump from the past to the present; however if Colter was transported 400 years in the past without any clothes or other items, how would be convince someone he was from the future? (Spies think on their feet all the time…right :) )

Hmmmm? 400 years. . . . that would be tough to prove during that time. If you could do something that wasn’t accepted by society, you were accused of being a witch. If I know Colter, he wouldn’t try to convince anyone he was from the future. He WOULD do his best to fit in and try to keep as low a profile as possible until he could find a way to get back home. That may seem like a cop-out to your question, but that’s my answer and I’m sticking to it.

9. Do you play an instrument and if not what do you wish you could play?

I can play a pretty good set of air drums, but that’s about it

10. So in chatting with you, you mentioned that you are a professional ghost hunter. Okay first let me get over just how freaking cool that is and how I am trying not to invite myself over one weekend to try it with you to answer the question we all have “How is Elvis and what’s he doing?”. Now we can move on to how did you get involved in that? What is your most interesting or most scary moment doing this? 

I started watching “Ghost Hunters” on TV and I had mentioned to my wife at the time that I would love to do something like that, just once, just to see what it was like. A guy she used to work with had his own paranormal team. He’d been doing it for more than 20 years. She asked him if I could go along sometime. He said sure and after my first investigation, I was hooked!! I ended up going with his team a few more times and they asked me if I wanted to join the team. I said YES without any hesitation.

I haven’t had anything really scary happen except a cat jumping in my lap in a completely dark room, but that wasn’t anything paranormal.

About 2 years ago we did an overnight investigation at the Ohio State Reformatory. The prison where they filmed The Shawshank Redemption. In the early 60’s, there was an inmate that killed himself by setting himself on fire and locking himself in his cell. The guide said his was one of the most active cells in the place. He also told us that the guy was a big Johnny Cash fan.

Later that night, we were in the cell and started getting some little hits with the K2 meter ( a device that has a series of green-yellow, orange, and red lights that light up when a spirit is near. The more energy expended by the spirit, the more light will flash.) I asked if he would like to hear some Johnny Cash and the K@ lit up all the way to red. I pulled out my phone and started looking for some Johnny Cash—thought about playing “Ring of Fire” then realized that might not be a good idea. Ended up playing “I Walk The Line” and the K2 was lighting up perfectly with the beat of the song. We couldn’t hear anything but figured he was clapping his hands along with the song. That was a highlight of that trip

**11. Lucky you Terry, you got the Valentine’s issue of Questions with Kate! So who is the one person (real or fictional) that you would want to spend a day with? What would you do with them and it does not have to be on February 14. It could be on say on Sept 19th, October 31st or any random Tuesday if that is more fun. **

Hands down—Scarlett Johansson. Sept 19th. Cruising through the Caribbean on a boat, drinking rum, talking like pirates and making passionate love. . .to each other!!

12. If you could create a command crew out all the characters in the Marvel universe who would be your pics for CO, XO, CSO, CMO, CE, and CNS and why? 

CO is easy—Captain America. He’s the ultimate team leader.
XO-Cyclops. Almost as much experience leading a team as Cap.
CSO-Reed Richards-A scientific expert in ALL fields of science.
CMO-Thor. In Thor’s early days in Marvel, his alter ego is who? Dr. Don Blake. No brainer here.
CE-Iron Man. Just as smart as Reed Richards, but more focused on technology. Just look at the suit.
CNS-Jean Grey, before she went all Dark Phoenix. Who better to be a Counselor than a powerful telepath.
COS-Daredevil. He’s got the heightened senses AND knows the law.
CIO-Black Widow. She’s a spy, duh?

13. What are your three favorites to use on “Talk like a Pirate Day and give me a sentence in how you would use them?

“I be getting’ three sheets to the wind after work tonight.” “Ye got yer homework done? Well, shiver me timbers.”

14. You said you love music. So what movie would be greatly improved if it was turned into a musical? 

It’s already been done with one of my favorite movies with “Spamalot”. I could see “Spaceballs” as a musical My-i-i-i-I whoo!! My Schwartzona!!

15. If you were a soup, what kind of soup would you be? 

I’d have to go with chili. I’m always cold.

16. Let’s get ready to Ruhhhhhhmmmmblllllee!. Terry at this point I am going to say I am buying a ticket to come hang with you one weekend. You have participated in two matches as a professional wrestler. The questions don’t stop but I narrowed it down to three:

Did you have a wrestling name?
 >>The Ter-minator (rhymes with air-minator)

Did you win the match?
 >>Lost the first match by DQ. My manager jumped in the ring to double-team my opponent and was disqualified. Won the 2nd match by DQ. It was a blindfold match and my opponent pulled off his mask just as I was getting the three count. I was about to win the WDUX Championship, but you can’t win a championship by a DQ

If I were to come hang out and we were in a tag team event, what would you name our team for the night?
 >>Well, it would have to be something Star Trek themed. Something like. . . The Federation!

*17. So D’Vash is sitting at a table on a starbase minding his own business and a man in a trenchcoat sits at the table next to him holding a newspaper. Suddenly you hear him speak. “Starfleet Intelligence has been disbanded. We need your help. Which organization do you want to join?. Illuminati or the Templars. Pick one” 

D’vash isn’t about controlling anything from the shadows, so he probably wouldn’t choose the Illuminati. He’s more of a Templar type of guy: Protection and living by a specific code of honor.

18. What is on your bucket list to do someday?

I’d like to visit Ireland someday, the land of my ancestors. I did some research while I was in college and found some information that said the Sullivans were a powerful royal family in ancient Ireland. Who knows, I could possibly be, like 233rd in line to the throne of Ireland. Plus, many of those castles have to be haunted.

20. You’ve said you love music. How big is your music collection?

Just added a new album today, so my collection is now over 12,000 songs, and only about 7% are KISS songs
