Before making a change like this that only results in negative consequences for people who are not likely to post on this board, someone should go seek out and gather an opinion from someone who might possibly have to live with the extra red tape that’s being proposed here. In addition to negatively affecting the individual it would hurt the club as you’d see prospective GM’s walk away rather than electing jump through the same hoops a second time.

I find this a very poor idea. But if you must pursue this very poor idea, then please discuss it with those who will be most hampered.

If it was we’d probably have more than one person with a rank lower than fleet captain chiming in.

Probably not. There might not actually be very many people who would expect to be in this category considering that a failure of the type described happens maybe once or twice a decade. There isn’t exactly very many people to ask about it.

Directly contacting at least a couple of up-and-comers who might look into GMing in the future would be what I would suggest. The approach taken was good and it’s now generating a pretty good level of participation, but I think it could be supplemented by reaching out to those less likely to read command.

I am actually reaching out to a couple of people who I think might be interested to see if they would be willing to express their thoughts.

I’m actually one who fits into multiple categories of this discussion. I failed my first GMT sim due to AWOL I believe. And I’m now looking into returning as a GM. A big question in this would be too–what about if one or more of the recommenders left the club? That’s what happened to me. Also, age of the recs should also be considered–mine are over a year, I think over 2, old–at that point, opinions could have changed, people change and stuff happens all the time. So I don’t think that there’s much of a problem with going back to start of GMT period of the age and validity of the recs are considered and checked.

Just my two cents into the discussion from someone actively going through the process.
